most retarded settings ever
Guys, I don't know if this was the first TDM match so far (<A> vs {TA}), but the match settings are REALLY way off.
Four things wrong:
1. Team Damage: I can't recall ever playing a serious clan match with Team Damage on in going on 6 years of playing UT. It is completely lame and has no place in UT (as stated by CliffyB himself).
2. Weapon stay off: 10 people, small maps, very few weapons. It was a lamefest of everyone running around with Shield Guns and Assault Rifles. And no, the Assault Rifle is not a valid weapon.
3. DM-1on1 maps: These are NOT DM-5on5 maps. Combined with Weapon Stay off, it's pretty dumb run 5 steps, die, spawn, die, etc.
4. Time limit: I'm not sure if it was 15 or 20 minutes, but it was pretty doff aimlessly running around for that long looking for weapons with a charged Shield Gun.
Don't mean to be harsh or mean to the GM guys or whoever set these rules, but playing these matches is going to be a pretty painful affair.
I don't know, it does seem a bit weird playing with these rules. But I for one found them a change. Put a whole new different dynamic to the game with having to share weapons, ammo, health and space so intimatly ;) with my clan mates.
Shrimp for the most part I agree.
Never played a clan match like this before. Very strange. That's why i asked Nomie if we wanna change it

but overall, GG dudes.
Yes, well played by all I think, just the setup was a bit frustrating...
yip...i agree....was a little strange..
shrimp hit it with the map and weapons stay....must choose maps very carefully and gimme those weapons....
however...team damage... was fun
anyway...thanx for the clannie to the <A> and {TA} was good !!
:)
Sorry for slaughtering you last Night Dante'. You kept getting into the way of flak balls, rockets or snot that had Bio's or Gizzlo's name on it.

thanks for the game guys...
the rules r lame but i had fun none the less
Fluffy, Nuat i dunno how u guys kill with a
shield gun on a jump pad but it was good, teach it to me plz
100% team damage is not great either. arena uses team damage, but i can stil shoot 3 rockets at a teammate and live to tell about it...
if u wanna have a fun ladder don't go pulling competition rules in every where
as i don't see ppl playing for money or prizes, so there is no real competition except to have fun while checking who is the best that beats the rest
thanx to all the {TA} dudes for catching so nicely and a special thx to dante for catching the shots that was ment for us...
GG :P
Ye was good ... seeing bio run past me trying to impact hammer me I doge and him hitting flux almost made me laugh so much that I couldn't stop shaking for a bit.... was funny 1ce more when I tried to Impack Gizlo and wam divexo ran into my shield.....
Pretty funny moments
<A>BioGizzard
18 Jul 2005, 09:58
rofl yeah, those moments were funny, makes me think why we even had guns in the map.
we could have just played a shieldgun arena or something :P
<A>BioGizzard

btw, the score was 3-0 to {TA}
Right - Well done TA - reading the above - we can do two things - we can restart TDM and leave Weapons stay on - if I have enough votes for it - should I start the poll?
As for Team Damage - I think it should stay on - as there was already a large discussion about this?
As for maps - those you think are small - we can change for bigger maps? I am willing to make this change early - if everyone can give me their 2c on which maps they currently think are too small - and which maps should replace them.
Democracy - you have to love it!

*Shakes his head sadly*
I had a funny 1 where I hammered 1 Avatar into an oncoming Avatar, with his shield gun out, then finished off the on-coming Avatar while his shield gun was re-charging. Another funny thing was in camp-grounds, my shield gun kills were higher than my score. But I think the high-light for me came in Camp-grounds where I gave up on guns, so just using the shield, and got a double kill on flux, then went in to get the flak, came across 3 Avo's, got a multi kill on them took the flak as it spawned, got a rampage with the shield gun, and only then pulled out the flak cannon, and died before I got to shoot it, got killed by a team-mate.
DJ what I think we should do is let this tournament run through as it is. For the next 1 we can implement improvements. Let's just go through with it, if we start chopping and changing now we won't have a clear indication of how well it worked. I reckon let's just play it through, this is the first tournament, there is bound to be glitches and hiccups and so on. the rules were set, stick with em, make the best of it. Maybe the maps we can change. I mean after all this is only for fun.
Agreed!

Just change it to 4 vs 4 and leave the rest as is. GG guys btw:)
I think that sounds acceptable - 5 vs 5 where possible - otherwise 4 vs 4 is totally aceptable. I think use the map size as a guide - 1 on 1 map should be fine for 4vs4 - and something like Goliath would work 5vs5.
When the tourney is over we can chat about the good and bad - to make the next one better... and so on!
What exactly is the problem with weapon stay off?
I think it's challenging for some - the idea of managing weapons and ammo / health etc. compared to weapons always being available. I think it's pretty cool - I've now for Clan training only set weapons off - and my Clan members are starting to play better (though we still get kicked badly online)
We just need bigger maps.
thanks for the game guys...

GM<DJ>MF did you get the email of the screenies...
just want know if dante done good !
hheeh
Yes, and all to my displeasure. everytime I tried to kill sum1 with a weapon in camp-grounds, Dante' stole/caught it.
Sorry for slaughtering you last Night Dante'. You kept getting into the way of flak balls, rockets or snot that had Bio's or Gizzlo's name on it.
hey...its not a problem man.....besides....i know you needed the frags!!!!
hahaha :P
U are the reason why my shield gun kills are higher than my score for camp-grounds.

so i did help in some way....lol

The DM-1on1 maps are just not on. That's obvious. The maps should be the size of Goliath.
You're complaining about weapons. Weapon throwing is on. One assault rifle isn't a really valid weapon. Two, however, are. If your teammate spawns, and you have a gun, throw him your assault rifle. Weapon stay off creates a dynamic such that your team needs to control guns. Take it off, and it degenerates into a bit of an FFA.
Team damage is there to stop people from spamming all day, 24/7/365. Without it, people will just hide in a corner where flak balls spawn, and spam flak all day.
<A>BioGizzard
18 Jul 2005, 20:18
that's not the reason for me to complain about the high level of team damage.
reason why i think it's lame at 100% is when u help ur team mate, we don't play in sinc like someone at a ho-down, but when he is in battle with 2 ppl and u want to support him and fire two rockets at one of the ppl in front, he might take one of those rockets in the face or in the ass, or even just the splash damage, but the point is if he had little health he'd be dead and u'd be screwed
So basically, you're arguing that spamming should take place? Because if team damage doesn't stop someone from doing it, then nothing will. Pull out an LG and hitscan the guys if you want precision. It's part of the skill dynamic.
Different strokes for different folks. I personally dislike bombing run in any form, but that's just me.
Play more Team Arena Master :P that'll teach you not to shoot your mates :P

Arena does nothing of the sort!! They still spam till thier hearts content!!!
I say just stick with what works! I(& a few others) Mentioned a long time ago that we should keep it at 4v4, but noooooooooo... Weapons stay off is o.k.. All the rest of the comm. need to do, is learn not just to grab a weapon because the one they're using isn't working but to rather think about thier team mates & SHARE the load!!!
Leave the setting as is just make the max players 8 (4v4) not 10 (5v5) & the minimum players 4 (2v2)!!!
<A>BioGizzard
18 Jul 2005, 22:21
no i don't say spamming should take place.
i'm saying reduce the 100% teamdamage to something more playable.like that of arena,
u don't die in one blow...makes it a bit more of a fight, instead of holding back support,
cause you only have a flak gun or a bio rifle or a mini gun...
and no matter how u make it sound
with weapon stay of u might not have the luxury of a lg...
like u say different strokes for different folks...
Let's run through this using the process of logical inference, citing your argument in point form.
1. You don't believe spamming should take place.
2. Proper teamdamage is all that prevents it from taking place.
3. You want teamdamage reduced.
4. What exactly are you getting at....?
*zips through on his roflcopter with his blackboard pointer and chalk*
Ok class. Mburr's TDM lesson number one.
DON'T FUCKING PLAY 1V1 MAPS WITH 10 PEOPLE IN THEM! IT DOESN'T WORK!
Go play Goliath, or something sane, with 8 players. No wonder you're complaining about weapons.
I just saw the maps now, and practically rofljaculated.

dudes - there is the map list for all the games in TDM - while this Tier is fresh - what maps are too small in TDM - and what do you want to change them to.
I think all other rules should remain - so here are your options:
1 - we change the smaller maps to bigger maps - 4v4 to 5vs5 remains.
2 - we change the team specs for each map - 1 on 1 type maps will be 2v2 to 3v3 and the bigger maps 4v4 to 5v5?

Hey guys,
1. I must agree with shrimp wrt weapon stay, I say it should be " Weapon's Stay " as we have a number of new or in-experienced clans playing it the Tourny. If weapon stay is off it's going to make this an ugly experience as Naja and 42 are master of managing weapons.
2. Team damage is a good thing but can we not scale it down to say 50%. If you look at Arena it appears that it doesn't take off the full damage of the weapon. Once again we would like to make this fun for the entire community and we do have players that are not that experienced. Full team damage is dangerous I know i got "GODLIKE" on my own team....lol
3. Why don't we play map specific, if the map is 3 vs 3 each team supplies 3 players, next map is 5 vs 5 each team supplies 5 players and so on..... Weapon stay should eliminate this problem.
Anyway WP TA ooked like it was good fun.
Later
Nevets - ok - I see the points!
So who's on for - Weapons Stay = on / 50% Team Damage / And recommended Clan players/Map as in the above listed maps?

think about this.
We dont have weapons , so obviously we will choose the shield gun..
Whats the first thing you do? charge it up!
What do you do next? run around looking for a weapon!
Then what happens, oops I poped another team mate.
Team damage + weapon stay creates a team killing bonanza....
no offence .... but 1 teamie killed me about 17 times in 1 match with assault rifle grenades.

maybe you guys need to come for some practise lessons in the shield gun
i'll be happy to share my moves with you guys

:D :notworthy
Thank god im not playing UT anymore for now. Team 42's rules SUCK ASS. I just started reading this thread and saw Shrimps complaint about the rules and didnt even bother reading the rest.
KAK RULES FULL STOP.
These arn't standard rules and should be emailed to the CS:S guys to implement in their clannies. UT doesnt need those shit rules.
by the time UT2007 arrives , i sure hope they arent still aorund.
BAH ! !
You're a fucking retard, Alan.
Those aren't team 42's ™©® rules, those are international standards, if this community actually learnt how to fucking play the game they wouldn't be bitching like this.
By the way we're not playing UT anymore, so you won't get annihilated using your rules again.
*ring ring*
Oh it's the cluephone, it's for you Alan.
right - to solve this - and keep the tourney fun - I've submitted a thread to allow voting of the settings everyone would like. the winning votes will set the new rules for the TDM tourney.
well, is this a tournament or not?
If "inexperienced" clans cant handle the concept of not running around lobing rockets everywhere then they need to damn well learn. Whether it kills your team mate or not, it's irritating (to get pushed around by rockets, propelled into the enemy etc).
Either its a propper tournament with propper TDM rules, or it's a joke. Yes you're right - the rules are there to change the dynamic (as Mburr said) so that the no-skill aimless losers who shoot flack bombs all over the map kill their team mates and lose points and lose the game.
Have it your way, and if you think thats Team 42 (TM)(R)(C) rules then you're a retard.
Those aren't team 42's rules, those are international standards, if this community actually learnt how to fucking play the game they wouldn't be bitching like this.
By the way we're not playing UT anymore, so you won't get annihilated using your rules again.
Unfortunatly there is no official international standard. there may be a competitive standard. all the ut leagues I've seen are playing with their own rules. I saw a ctf league with team damage on and a ctf league that was instagib.
Those guys are playing just to have fun, which is what we were after. I'm still under the opinion that we leave things as they are and just replace the small maps with bigger 1's.
So you telling us that 42 aren't playing in this little tourney?
That's a pity Scrye - thought Team 42 are supposed to be one of the better teams. Pity you not going to prove it.
That's correct, Daweed.
We are the best, don't have to prove it. :)
Just to clarify, we haven't pulled out of just the tourney, we've stopped playing UT (as a team) and have moved to Source.
That's a real pity Scrye - I guess if you out of UT - that means you are no longer the best!
Anywayz - those remaining will have fun!
We are the best, don't have to prove it. :)
Just to clarify, we haven't pulled out of just the tourney, we've stopped playing UT (as a team) and have moved to Source.
Read this, catch a wakeup. These are internationally standardized rules.

4.10 TOURNAMENT MATCH RULES
4.10a Game Definitions:
Match – A game played with three rounds, each using a different map with the third map serving as a tiebreaker
Round – one 20 minute cycle on a map
4.10b The following maps may be used for all matches. Each Tournament Match will use three maps. Maps will cycle with Tournament Rounds. The CPL reserves the right to change the map cycle until June 20, 2004
DM-Antalus
DM-Asbestos
DM-Campgrounds2k4
DM-Corrugation
DM-DE-Osiris2
DM-Deck17
DM-Goliath
DM-Goose2k4
DM-Rankin
4.10c Only team leaders are allowed to use public in-game messages (messagemode1, referred to as MM1) within a game. This rule also applies when a team member is dead. Use of MM1 by any member but the leader could result in a forfeit and loss. Other clan members must only use team messages (Messagemode2, referred to as MM2) while in the game.
4.10d Due to the quick re-spawning in the TDM game mode, team members may communicate verbally at any time during the match.
4.10e In the incident of a tie, the third round of the match will be played with the winner of that round being declared the winner of the match. Overtime rules are subject to change prior to June 20th, 2004.
4.10f Only registered players are allowed to participate in the tournament. Should any team have unregistered players in the tournament, the entire team will be disqualified. Each team must select a name for their team and also appoint a team captain.
4.10g Reserve players can act as a substitute at the start of each match or between rounds. A substitute player entering between rounds must use the same peripherals of the player he or she is replacing and may not bring new peripherals into the playing area. A maximum of two substitutes will be allowed in the designated substitute area. Substitutes may not be used before an overtime match.
4.10h A coin toss is used to decide which team plays as Red and which team plays as Blue. The winner of the initial coin toss picks the color they wish to play as before the match begins. Due to the TDM game mode, teams will not switch sides after each round.
4.10i If a team is not present in the tournament area at the start of a designated warm-up time, the other team may request that the coin toss take place without the opposing team's presence. This is done to allow the punctual team time to warm-up and determine proper strategies.
4.10j Teams may utilize a coach during the Unreal Tournament 2004 tournament. Due to the quick re-spawning in the TDM game mode, coaches will able to talk to his/her team at any time during the match. General Managers may double as the team coach. Although coaches will be allowed to communicate during the match, they are expected to follow any directions given by Tournament Official’s during the event. Coaches must be at least 17 years of age. Coaches are required to register as a competitor with the team to be allowed into the tournament area. The coach is an optional position that is not required.
4.10k The $50,000 Unreal Tournament 2004 Tournament will make use of the UTComp mod for all tournament machines with the following settings. The settings for UTComp are subject to change prior to June 20th, 2004.

5.00 COMPUTER CLIENT SETUP
5.00a Computers will be provided by Intel for tournament servers and clients. All tournament computers will be identical in hardware and default peripherals, and have ample processing power and 3D video acceleration. Players may not use their own computers in the tournament and may not use the tournament computers to practice.
5.00b Players can use their own keyboard, mouse and other controlling device, provided they submitted a driver request through the official CPL forums prior to June 20, 2004 at 6pm CDT. Driver installation and functionality of such devices are the sole responsibility of the player. No software or storage device is allowed to be brought into the tournament area.
5.00c A standard keyboard and mouse will be supplied to players who do not bring their own.
5.00d Players must provide their own headphones. Speakers may not be used in the tournament.
5.00e Video card gamma and brightness settings in Windows may be changed to a maximum allowable of 1.2. Monitor brightness is allowed to be changed if reasonable values are maintained. The tournament director/manager will warn players if settings are deemed too high. The following video settings are allowed to be modified. Vsync may be turned on or off through the display applet. Digital vibrance may be adjusted in Windows to a setting of medium. Individuals who are unsure of allowable video settings should request assistance from a tournament official. The use of weapon models is optional.
5.00f All binds are handled through the in-game options interface. Players are not allowed to open any configuration files manually for any reason or to have console enabled. Any player caught with any configuration file opened up manually will be immediately removed from the tournament area. If teams do not have a substitute player on the roster, they will then forfeit the match for lack of players.
5.00g Prior to a team sitting down at any computers, an admin must first check the system for any irregularities in the prior set-up.
6.00 SERVER SETTINGS
6.00a The following server settings will be used for all matches.
www.cplextreme.com/cplut2k4-cfg.htm (http://www.cplextreme.com/cplut2k4-cfg.htm)
7.00 TOURNAMENT PROCEDURE
7.00a Competitors may not enter the tournament area without the permission of a Tournament Official. If a competitor wishes to enter the tournament area for a scheduled match he or she must first check-in with a Tournament Official. Failure to follow the rules will result in that person's permanent removal from the tournament.
7.00b The tournament area is restricted only to tournament competitors, therefore competitors are not allowed to enter the tournament area with companions that are not participating in the tournament.
Tournament competitors are also prohibited from bringing the following items to the tournament area: food, drink, animals, custom chairs, chair cushions, pillows, blankets, cell phones, recording devices, video equipment and/or cameras. The CPL reserves the right to refuse any items in the tournament area beyond the ones that have been listed here.
7.00c Competitors are required to be punctual for their scheduled matches, and are only allowed a five-minute grace period before they are forfeited. While tardiness is not tolerated, it is at the Tournament Director's discretion whether or not to extend the grace period in specific instances (depending on the importance of the match) or any other extenuating circumstances. The CPL remains impartial to league competitors, but will make exceptions should it be for the better of the tournament. Repeated cases of tardiness will not be tolerated.
7.00d Scheduled match times represent the time of the actual match start, not the time that a competitor must report to the tournament area. Competitors must report to the tournament area at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Competitors will be allowed to report to the tournament area and begin client setup as early as conditions allow, up to 30 minutes prior to scheduled match times.
7.00e Competitors are responsible for the installation and proper configuration of their mouse driver, or driver for their controller of choice. Tournament Officials will be available to assist a competitor in getting his or her mouse driver to properly install. Additional time beyond the scheduled match time will not be permitted for those players experiencing difficulties with their mouse drivers. In addition to this, players who do not arrive at least 15 minutes in advance forfeit their setup and warm up time.
7.00f Competitors may not leave the tournament area between rounds or before an overtime match unless absolutely necessary. In this circumstance a competitor must be accompanied by a CPL designated escort to ensure that he or she does not converse with non-team members or alternates during this time.
7.00g Upon match completion, competitors should promptly remove their hardware and exit the tournament area. No reporting of match scores or notification of match completion is necessary.
7.00h Final standings for the $50,000 Unreal Tournament 2004 Tournament will be determined through a full double elimination bracket as outlined in the tournament rules. The cash purse will be awarded as the final standings reflect.
7.00i If a tournament server crashes before five minutes of the round have been completed, the server must be restarted and the game's score is reset to 0-0. If the server crashes after five minutes of the round has completed, the game must be restarted and played with the same score. Furthermore, the time of the round is changed to equal the remaining time left at the point of the server crash.
7.00j If a competitor’s computer crashes before five minutes of the round have been completed, the match will be restarted. If a competitor’s computer crashes after five minutes of the round has been completed, the server will be paused at the conclusion of the present possession once notification has been sent to the opposing team and tournament officials. Once the competitor has rejoined the server and teams are notified, play will resume.
8.00 COMPETITOR AND SPECTATOR CONDUCT
8.00a Competitors will conduct themselves in a reasonable manner, maintaining a friendly and polite demeanor to spectators, competitors, members of the press, tournament officials, and to other participants of the event.
8.00b Competitors must be available for post-tournament awards ceremonies, photographs, interviews, or other tournament events.
8.00c Competitors must remain quiet when inside the designated tournament area. Talking is permitted, but must be kept at a reasonable level, and away from other competing competitors. It is strictly forbidden for spectators to communicate with a player while he or she is competing. Spectators are not allowed in the tournament area.
8.00d Spectators or general event participants outside the designated tournament area, such as viewers of the tournament projection screens, are permitted to cheer, but specific clues or hints may not be given to the competitors. It is understood and acceptable to the CPL that general cheering and levels of excitement from the crowd can help a competitor understand what his opponent is doing.
8.00e Competitors will refrain from the use of vulgar language during the entire competition. Teasing competitors during matches is prohibited. All rules of conduct also apply to chatting through the game console.
8.00f Competitors are expected to compete in a professional manner. Throwing a match, halting play without cause, or showing a flagrant lack of effort will be construed as a violation of player conduct, and will result in match forfeit and disqualification from the tournament.
8.00g Spectators are encouraged to remain quiet while at the sidelines of the spectator area, and be mindful of the privilege of viewing tournament matches at such a close proximity.
8.00h Use of alcohol or illegal drugs is prohibited at CPL events. Players may not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while competing in a tournament.
8.00i Smoking is prohibited at all CPL tournaments.
8.00j At the conclusion of match play, teams are expected to break down their equipment in an orderly manner. Please take into consideration that other matches may be taking place and it would be unsportsmanlike to disturb them while competing.
8.00k Teams are responsible for returning their assigned match area to the condition it was in prior to play. Teams who fail to do so may be penalized and will be called back to the tournament area to straighten their tables and equipment back up.
8.10 DRESS CODE
8.10a Competitors may dress in jeans, pants, shorts, slacks, skirts, shoes, T-shirts or dress shirts. Hats can be worn. Clothes can not be torn, display vulgar language, or have inappropriate pictures. Shirt and shoes are required.
8.10b Team Logos, Sponsor names, or any such logos for other affiliations may be worn on clothing provided they do not contain vulgar language or vulgar pictures and are pre-approved by the CPL.
9.00 CHEATING AND RULE VIOLATIONS
9.00a By registering and participating in the $50,000 Unreal Tournament 2004 Tournament, each participant agrees to be bound by the official rules of this document. Breaking any rule listed herein is grounds for tournament disqualification at the discretion of the League Commissioner.
9.00b Any tampering with computer hardware or software, including but not limited to intentional crashing of software, illegal modification of hardware or software configurations, will result in immediate disqualification.
9.00c Any article of clothing in violation of the dress code must be replaced. Failure to replacing violating articles of clothing will result in immediate disqualification.
9.00d Any action in violation of the Player and Spectator Conduct rules as witnessed by a Tournament Official, may result in a warning. Once a warning has been issued, the next violation will result in disqualification of the entire team.
9.00e The Tournament Director reserves the right to cancel or modify the tournament rules if fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond reasonable control, impairs the integrity of the tournament.
9.00f Any protests or disagreements with tournament rulings must be made directly to the Tournament Director in a reasonable manner at the time of the incident, at which time a prompt decision will be made. The Tournament Director's decisions are final.
9.00g Multiple disqualifications may result in an extended suspension from CPL tournaments and CPL Events, as decided by the League Commissioner.
9.00h Any form of cheating, including but not limited to intentional disconnects, ping flooding, server crashing, etc., will result in immediate disqualification of the competitor and or team.
9.00i A Tournament Official has the right to disqualify and dismiss any registered player from the tournament, at their discretion, at any stage of the tournament, for any reason, with no prior warning to the player.
9.00j Team banners or team sponsor banners are not permitted to be displayed anywhere in a CPL Event, including the tournament area.
9.00k Any competitor or team attempting to use ANY exploit in a map shall be immediately disqualified and may be removed from the event. If you have a question regarding a particular tactic, ask a tournament official prior to the match.
10.0 LIABILITY AND AGREEMENT
10.0a The Cyberathlete Professional League, NewWorld.com, Inc., and its Sponsors are not liable for any property that is lost, stolen or damaged and/or for any injury, accidental or intentional, to any participant of the event.
10.0b This entire agreement cannot be altered, replicated, published, copied or quoted in part or in whole, without the written authorization of the Cyberathlete Professional League.
10.0c This document and all rules are subject to change at the league's discretion.
This document was last updated on May 3, 2004.
If the CPL rules weren't enough for you, here's Clanbase.

In addition to the maps in the maplist, you may select "custom map" on the challenge form and 2 text boxes will show up where you can enter the names of the maps you want to play. This way you'll be able to challenge your opponent on any map, but your opponent may decline the challenge freely.
3. Client settings
The netspeed value should be between 2500 and 20000. Any change during the game without the knowledge of the opponent can result in a forfeit loss.
4. Server settings
Games are played with the following settings:
Friendly Fire 100%
Translocator Off
Powerups On
Mutator=Botpack.NoRedeemer
TimeLimit 20
Fraglimit 0
WeaponStay Off
Tournament Mode On
ForceRespawn On
NetServerMaxTickrate: 25. Since Pure tickrates are variable between what they say and the actual packets received - a tickrate of 25 (or linux equivalent) should equal a player getting an average of 25 packets/second incoming( the first column on the f6 readout). Other values can be used only if BOTH clans agree.
5. Miscellaneous rules
Clans often have trouble deciding what map is played first. To solve that problem use the following system:
The lowest ranked clan picks which map should be played first, in the event that both clans are equally ranked then the clan with the worst ping get to pick the first map, in the unlikely event that both ranking and ping is the same then the clan that made the challenge picks the first map.
Substituting a player is allowed at any point, however if during a map then there should be no pause while the changeover takes place.
If a player disconnects from the server you are not obliged to pause the game, it may however be considered sportsmanlike to do so.
Tactical time outs are not allowed.
If one clan demands it, a specified player from the other clan must make a first person demo, this will be made available to a CB admin at the request of a clan.
6. Cheating and Anti-cheating
The IL('cheating','cheating and abuse policy','')cheating and abuse policy (http://www.clanbase.com/cheating.php) applies to all ClanBase ladders.
Programs that do not interact with the game in any way are allowed, even if they can be used and operated simultaneously with the game. Voice communication programs are examples of such programs.
It is not allowed to take advantage of or abuse bugs. Any kind of bug abuse is considered cheating and will lead to a forfeit loss.
All programs or files, be they changed game files or new files, that change the game or add to its functionality, or that interact with the game in any way, are strictly forbidden. Modified versions of the game's resource files are always forbidden, regardless of what they do. The use of any forbidden program or file by any clan member during a match leads to a forfeit loss at least, and to a removal and ban from ClanBase in bad cases.
Custom models and skins are not allowed, these include models that have been "tampered" with. Default models and skins as well as those found in Official Bonus Packs are allowed. Only exception is the Xan2 model which is disallowed due to the colour bug.
All matches should be played on UTPure servers if possible, preferably ones that run the latest stable version. Also servers that have the abilty to pause are favoured.
Map bugs on the whole shouldn't be used, something is generally considered to be a bug if it does one or more of the following:
Makes you impossible to see or hit.
Involves hiding in scenery.
Involves getting through walls / ceilings / skyboxes / blockers / etc.
Involves hiding or walking on invisible scenery.
Is only in one half of a symmetrical map.
Involves a team-mate helping you get there.
Behindview in any use or form is forbidden.
The program named "Little Tweaker", which is created to give an UT player a few more extra frames, is allowed.
Global rules
7. General
The proper functioning of the ladder system depends on the sportsmanship of the participating clans. We expect clans to play by the rules, but also to be flexible when circumstances require it and to be reasonable when an opponent has problems beyond their control.
If the ladder rules for a specific game conflict with these general ladder rules, then the specific rules have precedence.
Not knowing the ladder rules is never a valid excuse for not following them.
For any questions or comments concerning the ladder, contact the ladder supervisor. For problems that the supervisor can't solve, or for complaints about the supervisor or the outcome of conflicts, clanleaders should mail the game supervisor. If a solution is still not found, the clanleader can mail the IL('claninfo','Ladder Chiefs','cid=1874')Ladder Chiefs (http://www.clanbase.com/claninfo.php?cid=1874). Mails not written in English or containing abusive language, a case in which the rules have been correctly applied or any issue that has not been discussed with the ladder or game supervisor first will all be ignored.
8. Clans and Players
Any clan registered in ClanBase can participate in any ladder. For information on how to register your clan in ClanBase, read the IL('faq','FAQ','')FAQ (http://www.clanbase.com/faq.php).
Clans are allowed to make separate clans for their 'squads', have those squads join the same ladders and play against other clans. It is however not allowed to arrange official matches between different squads of the same clan. Such squads must also be clearly different from each other, their matches may not be played with the same players. Clans violating this rule will be removed from the ladder.
Only clan members who are registered in ClanBase can play in ladder matches, and they can only play with the nick (or very similar) they're registered with in their clan. Only members that have been registered as clan member for 24 hours or more are allowed to play for their new clan. Unregistered members, registered members who use a different name than the one they're registered with or members that aren't in the clan for more than 24 hours will be considered to be freelancers.
When playing in a ladder requires a GUID to be registered, the last change needs to be done 24 hours before a match. Registered members that use an incorrect GUID or a GUID which is less than 24 hours old during a match will be considered as freelancers. In case a member had no GUID filled in the opponent can only request the match to be cancelled (since the player only forgot a formality). Note that only the last entered GUID (the one you can see in your human info page) in the changelog will be considered as valid to play with. Our definition of GUID includes every unique identifier used by games to recognize players (SteamID, PB guid, XBL Gamertag, UT2004 guid, ETpro guid).
The above 24 hours rules do not apply to clans that have been created less than 24 hours before the official match time.
It is not forbidden for a player to be a member of more than 1 clan in the same ladder if he does so openly by linking his personalities. Any player playing in more than 1 clan in the same ladder without IL('faq','linking his personalities','&language=en#link')linking his personalities (http://www.clanbase.com/faq.php?&language=en#link) will be considered to be a freelancer in all clans but the one he was registered with first.
Using a freelancer in a ladder match will result in a forfeit loss.
9. Ladders
ClanBase only creates ladders when we believe there's a 'market' for it. When a new game or mod is released, we usually create an international ladder for it first, and country ladders later as the international ladder becomes more busy.
If you would like to request a new ClanBase ladder for a new game, mod or an existing game and you think there will be enough interest from other clans to make it competitive - please start a petition (or vote for an existing petition) using IL('ladderpetition','this page','')this page (http://www.clanbase.com/ladderpetition.php). Next, we will consider adding the ladder, based on the popularity of the game or mod and based on our relevant expertise in order to provide a great working ladder.
Country/region ladders are not restricted to clans of the corresponding nationality. The only restriction is that matches for country/region ladders have to be played on servers in that country/region, unless both clans prefer not to. To enter a ladder of a country or region other than your own, use the following trick: change the clans' nationality, subscribe, and then change it back.
Playing several matches against the same opponent in a short period of time is considered cheating as it distorts the ranking. As a rule of thumb, never play the same opponent twice in less than one week unless you also play many other matches. Matches that violate this principle will all be deleted. In case of grave violations it will be assumed the matches are fake.
When a fake match is discovered, both clans involved will be deleted from ClanBase.
10. The rating system
ClanBase ladders use a rating system based on the ELO system known from chess. Every clan starts with a rating of 1000 points. After each match, points are added or substracted based on whether the outcome of the match was a win, a loss or a draw (the score has no importance).
How many points you gain after a win or lose after a defeat depends on the rating difference between you and your opponent before the match. The ELO formula is very complicated, but the following easy examples will give you a good idea:
Beating an opponent with the exact same rating gets you 60 points.
The maximum amount of points you can win for a single victory is 120, but to get this many points you'll have to beat an opponent who is 700 or more points ahead of you in the ranking. You get 100 points for beating an opponent who is 200 points ahead.
Beating lower ranked opponents gets you less than 60 points. If they were 200 points below you you only gain 20 points, if they were 300 points below you only get 10 points, and if they were 400 points below you get a mere 5 points.
The number of points you can win and the number of points you can lose always add up to 120. So if you can only win 30 points with a victory, you can lose 90 points with a defeat.
If a match ends in a draw you will gain points if your opponent was ranked higher, or lose points if they were ranked lower.
Against clans that have played less than 3 matches in a ladder, you only win or lose half the amount of points you would normally win or lose.
The ladder leader does not have a rating, but is considered to have an infinite rating instead. Top 5 clans can take the top spot by challenging the current ladder leader and beating them in a direct confrontation. If that happens they become the new ladder leader while the old leader gets their old rating. If the challenger loses or plays a draw, nothing changes.
The ladder leader is not allowed to refuse playing the other top 5 clans without a valid reason (valid decline options are proposed by the system, see below). Repeatedly rescheduling to senseless dates or with non-default match rules or only playing lower ranked clans in order to be able to decline challenges will be considered abusing the ladder system and the clan will risk being removed from the first spot.
Clans outside the top 5 can also challenge the ladder leader, but such challenges can be declined freely. If the ladder leader is beaten then they're switched with the second ranked clan while the challenger gains 120 points. If the ladder leader wins, nothing changes.
11. Arranging matches
The deadline for reacting to a challenge is 7 days after the challenge or 7 days before the war, whichever is later. If by the deadline the opponent still hasn't reacted to the challenge, they get a penalty of 5 points. You can set an earlier deadline for accepting the challenge yourself, but then there is no penalty if the opponent doesn't react in time.
You can only refuse a challenge from another clan in the following cases:
Reschedule: You want to reschedule the match to another date. This date has to be within 14 days of the original challenge.
Unequal match: There is a gap of 10 ranking positions and 100 points between you and your opponent, or you have more than 1100 points and its your opponent's first match.
Busy in this ladder: you already have 2 or more matches in this ladder in the next 30 days.
Custom maps: the opponent selected custom maps.
Declinable matchrule: the opponent selected a declinable match rule in the challenge form.
Hibernate: you want to put your clan on inactive in this ladder. You lose 32 points but after that you can decline all challenges. All your scheduled matches are cancelled when you go into hibernation. Hibernation ends automatically when you play an official match for this ladder again.
If you don't want to play the match for some other reason, you'll have to contact the other clan (email, irc, icq) and persuade them to cancel their challenge.
A scheduled match can be cancelled until 12 hours before the starting time from the IL('avail','Agenda','')Agenda (http://www.clanbase.com/avail.php). The side that wishes to cancel the match will either have to propose a reschedule or go into hibernation.
When both clans agree not to play a match it can be canceled for any reason after its scheduled starting time. Just fill in the "Match was canceled" option on the result form.
If a match is played without being arranged on ClanBase first, then both sides are depending on each other's sportsmanship to accept the result afterwards. We will not force match results when there was no accepted challenge for that match.
A war result is automatically accepted 4 days after it was last edited.
12. Before the match
To find your opponent before a match, you should look on their clan channel on IRC or contact them directly through ICQ if you don't use IRC.
If you don't find each other this way, go to the ladder's IRC channel (linked in the Ladder Info box on the ladder page) and put your clan tag before your nick.
If you still haven't managed to get in touch with your opponent 10 minutes after the scheduled starting time of the war, you can fill in a no show. You have to say so on the ladder's IRC channel ("filling in a no show for myclan vs. otherclan, warid=[wid]") if you want to have proof (admin's irc logs) of your presence and your opponent's absence in case of a match conflict about the no show.
In case of a no-show it's strictly forbidden to fill in any score (even 1-0), even when both clans agree. Instead you must check the no-show box on the result form, which will result in a fixed penalty of 10 points for the clan not showing up. No-show matches where a score has been entered may be cancelled or changed to a no-show without warning.
If you're more than 10 minutes late, you have to accept a no show if your opponent insists. If you feel there's a good reason the result shouldn't be a no show, you'll have to convince your opponent of that.
If one clan is short of players, the other clan can demand a no show to be filled in.
If one clan refuses to play by the rules agreed upon in the challenge form, they lose by forfeit.
13. After the match
Once a match has started, its result counts, unless both sides agree it shouldn't. Ping or lag issues are no excuse for leaving; you should have checked the server before you started playing.
If you feel there's a good reason the match shouldn't count (e.g. a drastic increase in lag after the match had started), you'll have to convince your opponent of that, as for ClanBase a match that has started always counts.
If one clan walks away from the match, the score at the time when their last player quit can be considered to be the result of the match by the clan that stayed. If this score doesn't reflect the probable final outcome of the match, ClanBase can change it to the advantage of the clan that stayed.
Either clan can enter the result of a match, unless the other has already done so. Once one clan has entered a result, four things can happen:
The score is edited by the clan that entered it (the other clan can't do this).
The score is accepted by the other clan, and ladder ratings are adjusted accordingly.
The other clan refuses to accept the score, making it a match conflict (see below).
The other clan does nothing for 4 days, after which the score is accepted automatically. When a score is edited, it takes 4 days again before it is automatically accepted.
14. Match conflicts
The match conflict system functions as a court room with ClanBase admins acting as judges. A match conflict is initiated when the result entered by one clan is not accepted by the other.
Try to solve the conflict with your opponent by icq/irc/email first. If you didn't make an effort before starting the official match conflict, you will lose the conflict.
The side that initiates the match conflict must explain the problem in a clear and polite way. Links to screenshots and demos should be included right away if relevant. When either clan claims a certain score, links to screenshots of that match result must be posted immediately. Failure to do so will lead to an automatic and immediate loss of the conflict.
Admins will only look at the comments on the conflict page when judging a case. Comments on match reports or elsewhere will not be taken into consideration.
It is strictly forbidden to contact the admin handling the conflict in private to defend your case. Anything you have to say must be said openly. Trying to influence the admin in private will lead to automatic loss of the case.
Name calling, insults and random accusations in the comments can all lead to the automatic loss of the conflict.
Match conflicts will be judged by the standard rules and by the rules agreed upon in the challenge form. Challenge notes and agreements made in irc, icq, mail etc... are not considered to be binding when the opponent contests them afterwards.
If the match was played using rules deviating from what was applicable or agreed upon, these rules are considered to have been silently accepted by both sides.
If you suspect another clan of cheating then you must have evidence and you must present it immediately. Conflicts based on alleged cheating but without clear evidence will be lost automatically and immediately.
Examples of valid evidence are demos, in-game screenshots and server logs that were obtained from a neutral party. Private logs from IRC, ICQ, etc. will not be considered to be evidence because they can easily be falsified.
Any files used for evidence (demos, screenshots, ...) must be uploaded and linked in the conflict. Sending files to admins directly is not allowed.
If a demo is used as proof of cheating, you must immediately specify the exact moment(s) (down to the exact minute and second) where the cheating is proven or the conflict will be lost automatically and immediately. Admins will not look at entire demos.
Match conflicts are never urgent and admins typically let a week go by before looking at a case to give both sides the chance to explain their case. Do not contact admins about a case for any reason, we will never ever forget about a case as it stays on our list until it is closed so just be patient.
Clans who repeatedly make conflicts that have no foundation in the rules or that are clearly made for the sole purpose of complicating the match process, risk being deleted.

Rosters - Teams will be allotted 10 roster spots. Each player's GUID must be submitted. Only players with those specified GUID's will be allowed to participate in a match.
Spectators - Only GGL Admin staff and Shoutcasters are allowed to spectate. Please, if a match is occuring, leave the server, failure to do so may result in a ban from the server and the GGL.
Server - The Global Gaming League requires all matches to be played on our own servers (provided by GameDaemons) any match not played on our official servers will not count and must be replayed. The only exception to this rule is if our servers are down, if this is the case, we will announce substitute servers in #americup on irc.enterthegame.com or allow participants to play on the server of their choice as long as both players agree to it.
Tardiness - Teams and players must show up for their match 10 minutes before the match start time to discuss the server and other related information in the designated meeting location which is #americup on ETG and or Gamesurge.net. Tardiness will not be tolerated, teams/players more than 30 minutes late will lose the match by forfeit unless you have contacted your game Admin or GGL-DonKing with a valid reason as to why you cannot play the match at the default match time. Players can also contact their opponents and reschedule the match, once a time/day has been agreed on then you must contact your game Admin or GGL-DonKing with details. Teams/players that are late on multiple occasions may be removed from the league.
Shoutcasting/Game TV - The Global Gaming League reserves the right to cast, and provide live or delayed public broadcasts via the game specific TV client as well as any video production such as movies or flash productions. The Global Gaming League also reserves the right to shoutcast live or delayed audio commentary. Teams and Players cannot deny Shoutcasting and or Gamer TV such as GTV, HLTV, CoDTV or UTV. If a member of a shoutcasting group is kicked from the server or told not to cast the match then the match may be ruled a disqualification and the team(s) may be replaced.
Reschedules - Teams and players that need to reschedule their matches for whatever reason may do so as long as both players/teams agree to the reschedule and the request for reschedule is sent in to donking@ggl.com 24 hours before the match is to take place.
Usernames - Players and teams must use their GGL usernames while playing official AmeriCup matches.
No Shows - If your opponent does not show up within the games alotted time limit, contact an Admin asap, Admins can be reached in #americup on irc.enterthegame.com and irc.gamesurge.net For Warcraft 3 - Channel ggleague on bnet east, Starcraft on pgtour channel ggl, Age of Mythology in the Community Event Room on ESO, Age of Conquerors in Ladder 1 on MSN or GGL-DonKing can be reached at MSN - donking@ggl.com AIM - GGL DonKing
Ping - Because of the nature of the internet, players must deal with pings. The GGL is all about fairness and require players to find the most fair server(s) to play on. A fair ping difference is 10-20 ping. Both players must agree to the server, if a server cannot be agreed on then please contact your UT2004 Admin and he/she will assist you in finding the fairest server. NOTE: Players on dialup will play Broadband users with a much lower ping. Players with ISP issues may have a high ping and may experience lag and or ping spikes, we will allow a reschedule of the match if both players agree, but, remember, the match must be played on the match day and no later.
Disconnect(s) - If a player disconnects (the remaining player must note the time and the score) they must return to the server within 10 minutes. If the player does not return then contact a UT2004 Admin. Once the player returns you must callvote the remaining time and start the match. Once the match has ended you will add the score from the earlier match to this match score. If a player disconnects a second time, the match will be ruled a loss for them.
Cheating - For obvious reasons, cheating will not be tolerated under any circumstances. All UT2004 Admins will view the replay of the suspected hacking. If all the UT2004 Admins are 100% convinced that you were hacking, you will be removed from the League for the season and or banned from the GGL. Cheats include, but are not limited to the following...
Ringing - Someone plays for one of the team members.
Botting - A program that assists a players aim and or plays for you.
Wallhacking
<li>Any mechanism by which information that is not normally available to the player is obtained, such as eavesdropping.
Conduct - Members that do not display proper sportsmanship towards other members may be removed from the League. Activities that would warrant this consideration include: excessive message spamming or other in-game abuse, public defilement of other members, and in particular the use of vulgar or racist remarks. In extreme cases this rule may apply to any electronic communication and through any medium that involves members of GGL or its Administrators. However please note that we are not in the business of censorship, and the above rules are generally restricted to a match environment, except in circumstances that an Administrator deems to be violent and/or flagrant derision of GGL members. Decisions in this matter will be left to the subjective analysis of the Administrator(s).
Reporting - Referees will report the match outcome.
Demos/ReplaysThe GGL does not require replays and demos to be submitted after the match, however, we do require that all players and teams record and save the replays/demos for two (2) weeks. If an Admin or ref requires your demos they will ask and if a demo/replay can not be submitted for whatever reason then that player/team may be given a loss/forfeit loss for the match in question. We do however have the option for players that wish to upload their replays/demos for public viewing, this is done on the report page.
Questions/Concerns - If you have questions or concerns about anything related to the GGL then contact your game Admin or DonKing at donking@ggl.com

<li> Introduction
The following rules were created to promote fair play, honesty, and to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience at GGL. However, with that being said, the rules are subject to change at any time without notice. All teams and members are expected to read and understand all of the rules; not knowing them is not a valid excuse for not following them.
<li> League Format
One match per week will be scheduled per team/player. The number of league matches per season will be determined on a per league basis and will be based on the respective league’s number of competing teams. Matches will be scheduled for a set day and time, which can be found on each league's respective page. Game days and times are non-negotiable. Both teams/players must meet with one another a minimum of 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. It is strongly suggested to setup an IRC match channel to discuss match details or meet in #ggl on ETG and/or GameSurge.
<li> Point System
3 points awarded for a win or forfeit win.
1 point is awarded for a loss.
<li>1 point is deducted for a forfeit loss. (More than one forfeit may result in league removal)
<li>Teams/Players
Teams and players with vulgar names will not be invited to the league or removed from the league; names consisting of racism or profanity are examples of a non-acceptable name. For team play competitions, each team must have a designated leader. Each team/player must have a valid email address. Each team must also have a minimum roster size as determined on a game-by-game basis. While in matches, players must use easily identifiable nicks, which closely resemble or match those registered on their GGL roster.
<li>Models
Players must use the default models unless mentioned otherwise in the Specific League Rules. Any player caught using anything but default models will forfeit the match and possibly be removed from the League for multiple offenses. This also includes weapon models.
<li>Fair Server Selection
Teams will initially be responsible for their match's server selection. At least 10 minutes prior to a match, both teams are to discuss possible servers for match play. Teams are to look for the fairest server based on an average ping of all players. To alleviate server jumping, players should already know which servers they ping the best to. If applicable, GGL Referees will NOT follow teams to multiple servers to help them decide on a server. It is expected that by match time a server has been chosen and agreed upon. If applicable, GGL Referees will have the final say on server selection if teams are not able to agree on a suitable server. The maximum allowed ping difference between two teams is 50 m/s. All League matches MUST be played using GGL Certified Servers. A list of GGL Servers will be provided prior to the start of the league. For all non-First Person Shooter games, a list of fair servers will be provided.
<li>Roster Lock/ID's
Rosters for all GGL team leagues officially lock before the league starts. SteamID's and GuID's are required for all members. These ID's will be checked before and after matches. Teams and players playing from LAN and or CyberCafes will not always have matching ID's, please read the rule in this section entitled CyberCafes/LAN Centers.
<li>Forfeits
Teams and players that forfeit more than once will be removed from the League.
<li>Conduct
Teams and players are expected to act in a respectful manner to other players as well as GGL Administration. Rude, vulgar, or offensive comments may be cause for removal from all GGL events, on the grounds of "Unsportsman-Like Conduct". Areas include, but are not limited to, GGL Servers, Forum Posts, GTV, GGL IRC channels, and GGL Administration. Removal decisions based on poor conduct are Admin/Referee decisions, and are final. Team leaders are held directly responsible for the actions of their team members. If a member of their team is found to be guilty of violating sportsmanship etiquette, administrators will deal directly with that team’s representative, who is expected to immediately address the issue in a pro-active and positive manner.
<li>Match Chat
Message Mode 1 is allowed as long as it is not deemed as spam. Trash talking is part of online gaming and is allowed as long as it not cruel, demeaning, racist or sexist.
<li>Fair Play
For obvious reasons, cheating will not be tolerated under any circumstances. If a team or player is caught cheating in a match setting, they may be disqualified or banned from the league and stripped of all positive points. Read each League's game rules for cheating rules.
<li>CyberCafes/LAN Centers
Teams and players playing from CyberCafes/LAN Centers must make sure that it has been registered with the GGL atleast 3 days in advance. Teams and players will not be able to play from unregistered CyberCafes/Lan Centers. The CyberCafe/Lan Center owner/employee must email donking@ggl.com with the following information. CyberCafe/Lan Center Name, Owner/employees name/Location/Email Address/IP Range/Phone Number.

Conduct:
Sportsmanship:
Good sportsmanship is conduct and attitude considered as befitting all participants, including fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing. This is a gaming community and as such, good sportsmanship is necessary.
Cheating:
To cheat is to act dishonestly to gain an advantage. In these rules, exploitation of game bugs is defined as un-sportsmanlike conduct. Cheats are devious or malicious acts, done outside of game play to unfairly influence the outcome of the match. Examples of this are ping flooding an opponent or server, altering match server settings outside of the agreed upon parameters, or in any way altering the gaming situation as to affect an unfair advantage by direct means. Teams that are caught cheating will be awarded a loss and removed from the tournament.
Protests:
A player may file a protest of the results or report possible conduct violations to the administrators. When filing a protest it is the dissenting players’ responsibility to provide as much evidence for the administrators as possible. If you suspect someone is violating the tournament rules in the middle of a match please report this to us immediately. Submitting a protest after a match lessens the likely hood of it being looked into and taken seriously.
Administrators:
Administrators may be contacted to mediate a scheduling conflict, make a ruling on a match protest, and/or to make an interpretation of the rules as they apply to the situation. The participants must agree to abide by the administrators’ decisions. If circumstances fall outside of the structure of the rules, the administrator(s) will attempt to resolve these issues in the fairest manner possible.
These rules are subject to change without notification and at any time by official tournament administrators. Such changes will be posted upon this website pending their confirmation.
Questions and comments can be sent to codered@fragapalooza.com .
I will read and flag the commons :P we can then compare it to the vote and discuss fair changes - before TDM moves further forward.
I do believe I've made my point. There's your international standards. Now I'll appreciate it if you all just shut up, because you've yet to actually play using the proper rules. You haven't played using the ruleset Team 42 is advocating, so don't come to us preaching about "our rules", because you're talking out your ass.
Those rules are there to play the game in the most basic, skill-intensive form possible. This is why international teams outperform us time and time again. Because we're too lazy to aspire to anything other than mediocrity.
And I've got a 300kb .pdf ruleset downloading if anyone else would like to see that, in addition to what I've posted already.
I rest my case.
Mburr - would like to look at the 300kb doc - can you mail it to me : play@gamemasters.co.za
And I've got a 300kb .pdf ruleset downloading if anyone else would like to see that, in addition to what I've posted already.
I rest my case.
Well Mburr, u have proved my point for me. Unless u look at a specific compo rules or 1 of em league rules, and claim they are the international 1's. otherwise what u have posted are each league/compo's individule rules. I have read through them things before.
Ok ok- but still TEAM DAMAGE ON IS STILL SHIT.
And i'm sure there are a host of others that will agree.
Also every tourny rules you posted Mburr differ from each other, so that means this compo can make its own rules. Just a thought.
Fcuk the norm. Lets make our own rules. Besides we are south africa and tend to do what we like regardless what the rest of the world thinks. Just look at our old abolished Apartheid system.
Come , lets make like the the boer's and "maak n plan".
Cough* new rules cough*
Terrorizor, I don't see what you have to do with these conversations as you pulled out of playing.
Team damage on - weapon stay off - i like it that way - it makes u think.
The usual play is:
1) Get weapon
2) Shoot
Now since ammo is scarce and u dont want to damage ure team mate - now u have to think while playing -
This makes it much more interesting.
Yes Mudd@ like I said I like these rules for a change. Keep the rules the way they are for now. Just use bigger maps. we started the tournament with these rules, keep the rules. so far the only TDM game was the only 1/16 game, so for the rest of the compo we can easily implement bigger maps, without having anything affected at all. I even think that even these maps aren't necesarily that wrong, but that could just be because I'm an SG person.
Terrorizor, I don't see what you have to do with these conversations as you pulled out of playing.
Ok - your right.
Already the polls are agreeing to this and as do I - the only change so far I think I see happening will be made is swapping the 1-on-1 maps for bigger maps.
Besides - I reckon play like this increases your skills.
Team damage on - weapon stay off - i like it that way - it makes u think.

Have you noticed how far been different has gotten us... Plus the South African gaming community takes part in international competition. We are apart of the ESWC and the WCG, because of this we conform to their rules and regulations. Just because the above rules have slight differences between them doesn't mean that they are completely different. They all have similarities. The settings been discussed on this forum are in everyone of these rules stated above and I don’t know if you noticed but they all have the same setting in each rule set. So there is an international standard, which has been used for a couple years running in successful gaming events across the world. By changing these rules your ultimately decreasing South Africans chance of been able to compete on an international level.
But hey do what the fuck you want, the type of discussion and argument presented here is basically why I’d rather play Source online than play UT.
ok - well i am just rawing here,trying to open some idea's thats all . . :D
If thats the rules then thats the rules. Good on ya guys for pointing that out and showing that the rules that are present are standardised. Now we can all sleep better knowing the comp is legit.
Well done.
DaWEED, if you check really carefully, you'll notice that there are similarities between the various rulesets. 4 players a side, weapon stay off, and team damage on.
Given that those are alomst all the international organisations with any say whatsoever, it's fair for me to reach a consensus that stipulates that yes, those are indeed international standards.
You seem to like the rules so far. I'm happy about that. Try it with 4 a side. Makes it a little less crowded.
Whats the big thing about CS source ?
More comps ? more prize money ? more publicity ?
I prefer UT.
International rules ?
The rules aint gonna make u play any better !
What helps them there is cheap broadband - and much much more players.
The gene pool is thus so much bigger. So the stats are in their favour.
Team damage on - weapon stay off - i like it that way - it makes u think.

Agreed, it adds a 1 vs 1 dynamic concentrated on much smaller parts of the map. The first league match or proper clanny I ever played against clan DX we got whooped -3 to 105 and -5 to 126 was a real eye opener and probably the reason im still playing UT.

And more chicks, I checked a vid with the winner of a CS competition video in Korea. He actually had body guards to keep the fans of him, couldn’t believe it.

why I’d rather play Source online than play UT.
Hey Nick, how are you guys doing with CS Source? Have you started playing clannies?
played one today apparently...
You seem to like the rules so far. I'm happy about that. Try it with 4 a side. Makes it a little less crowded.
4 a side .. bah.. 8 a side :p, I want it more crowded. Easier to kill das enemy with the SG.
Guys - Voting has Closed - and the following settings were the majority selected:
Teams are fixed to 4v4 / 5vs5 - Smaller maps replaced with bigger maps
Weapons Stay : Off
100% Team Damage
So I think the only changes to our settings according to this should be changing of the maps.
Please everyone - here are the map list for TDM - I already think Roughinery will have to go and Asbestos.
Let me know which maps you think are too small - and recommend the replacement maps you would like.
1/16 and 1/8 (Tournament Start)
Roughinary (2v2 - 3v3)
Rankin (3v3 - 4v4)
Campgrounds (4v4 - 5v5)
1/4 (Quater Finals)
Deck 17 (4v4 - 5v5)
Asbestos (2v2 - 3v3)
Grendelkeep (4v4 - 5v5)
1/2 (Semi-Finals)
Compressed
Antalus (4v4 - 5v5)
Goliath (4v4 - 5v5)
1 (Finals)
Grendelkeep (4v4 - 5v5)
Goliath (4v4 - 5v5)
Campgrounds (4v4 - 5v5)
Thanks
all i can say is goodbye  to 42 , may the source b with you :D, so in future we can have our fun in UT without having to obide by international standards pulled from somewhere (where its always been one of the 42 guys that has requested them), when we dont have to. And we dont have to listen to someone screaming in the corner "FOUL, its not an internationaly accepted rule!!!", the team damamge has its place, i suppose, mbur has a valid point with spaming, but then this is UT, u are given spam weapons, and not CSS where its more of a simulation, and 1 bullet at a time philosophy.
this is meant to be a friendly little competition, without a formal audit or legal procedings, we set the rules, and some CSS player can keep his opinion about UT to himself (regardless of how many compos he's won, dueling). So its not meant to put us on an international standing anywhere, ITS JUST FOR US and FUN!
I'll support the decision of the competition organiser as to what he decides to do, as that is the trust established here, where we have a regulator localy, and no need for international rules when this is a GM-MF tourney, so DJ scrathes the rules. :p
Dude. I'm giving my input. People are whining. And I really don't give a fuck whether or not you use the rules I posted, since I'm not playing.
See you in 2007, when the gaming community will be something of a different place my friend. It'll be run by people that know what they're doing.
God, why don't you guys just play Instagib invasion with 20 people a side on Gael? Then you could make a SAWCG, cause obviously all the other big international competitions aren't fun enough.
Comparing competition UT to having fun UT is 2 different things.
I am not sure which is better. I do know that I enjoy belonging to TA and when we get together, we have a great time.
If you only want to play to "wcg" or international comp rules - fine. If u wanna have fun cool.
If I never win a duel comp, I aint gonna cry. If i never get to see an international comp, my life goes on. If i play to local rules - cool -
It doesnt really affect me in anyway that we are not following the international rules.

oh goodie does that mean that by then u okes will have grown up?
(where its always been one of the 42 guys that has requested them)
I guess thats because everyone in our clan has compeated proffesionaly. In the years that 42 played WCG-UT we took home the trophee every time. So yea.
No one dictated any rules, we just said do it properly or don't expect any of us to waste our time with a 5v5 noobish spam fest on DE-Ironic.

What are "local rules"?
Mburr was sighting sane rules, nothing more. Do you think the international rules were just sucked out of someone's thumb? It's supposed to make the game actually worth while to play.
Do you want any pro tournaments in future? Do you want to be able to win prizes and play UT at the big lans? Do you want servers to play on?
If you don't care and don't want to promote the game, and don't want to get sponsors interested or good players - then you should probably stick to solitaire and not bother with these kinds of "tournaments" which are just a silly waste of time.
That or UT will remain a little bit of "fun" for a few pretentious xenophobes. I really think there should at least be a little adherence to some decent rules, decided carefully by international gaming organisations rather than trying to reinvent the wheel and wasting people's time with 'instagib' and free-for-all who-can-load-the-most rocket matches.
So it's left to you - grow up and stop being silly with "oh but it's just Team 42 who don't want to have our kind of 'fun'" (it is this kind of stupid comment that just renews the fact that these people are not interested in entertaining any idea that is not their own) and try to be less narrow minded around your own ideals.

i honestly don't even know why this thread is continueing. You bitch about rules: so the rules got pasted: just because 42 actually follows them and it doesn't suit ur idea of 'I GOTS A FRAG!!!@#@%^# or what ever it is you ppl say on servers, you guys get all high and mighty about takign out the only team that has actually proved themselves.
I mean SA whines about not being up to scratch in the International comps, but then we have our own set of rules? I think the attitudes of you ppl are so self absorbed that you can't even begin to think about the fact that maybe some one else is right because you are so blinded by your 'hatred' of them, what is it jealousy, or just a plain need to take out and rip apart everything they have to say?
anyway. my 2c, not that it means much. but i dont think it is the rules that is the problem here. i think it is the level of maturity (or lack there of) that is holding alot of you ppl back.
The thing i dont understand is, when you play soccer you pay soccer, when you play cricket you play cricket, when you play rugby you play rugby.
If you're kicking a ball to your friend in the back yard then whatever. But if you have a soccer team and you want to see how good you are compared to another soccer team, you dont sudenly pick up a bat and kill the goaly or start seeing how far over the hill you can kick the ball to see how long it takes the other team to fetch it - or whatever silly scheme you can come up with.
If you want to play UT tdm against another team - at the very least, one should use the most widely accepted set of UT TDM rules before embarking on a completely useless game.
That said, the vote has already decided the right rules which GM posted.
Pro Soccer players can practice without actually playing soccer.
This comp is like a little beach soccer - when there is an official comp then yes - put on the boots and get the ref.
Then again some pro-soccer players wouldnt play beach soccer.
By the way, I dont hate anyone, and am sure that having a debate where some egos get ruffled is healthy.
I guess thats because everyone in our clan has compeated proffesionaly. In the years that 42 played WCG-UT we took home the trophee every time. So yea.
lol, yea, go boys, in which team event was that?
I would rather stick to beach soccer. I dont need to prove my gaming l33tnes to wcg, i make a living doing other stuff, gaming is recreation.
I can help support WCG like i tried last year (and screwd up, but one learns from scru ups), and i will always back my clan members if they decide to compete.
and stuff beach soccer, gimmie a beer, and lets watch womens beach voleyball :D
You claim to help support WCG? I'm just laughing my ass off right now.
You people have the audacity to criticize our overseas performance, but not a single fucking one of you is interested in improving our capabilities as a community. There are at most, 6 people in this country that are worth having a duel against.
The rest of you people ooh and ah, and claim to actually know what the fuck you're doing relative to international dueling, but it took two years for people to start actually dueling actively on a local scale. And by then, it was too late.
I don't cite the community for my performances. I'd just like to say that having one person in a country of 40 million to play against really helped improve my chances. And at the end of the day, it's people like you, Camel, who are first to judge. How about giving a little back?
No wait, that's too much to ask.
Comparing competition UT to having fun UT is 2 different things.

Yep, but there should be a balance. All clannys and pub matches I have played in SA so far has been for fun which is good cuze ummmmm its fun :P
But why not strive to improve? fair enough this competition/leuge tourny is the first thing I have seen in SA resembling anything that happens oversees which is a good thing for the community if it gets pulled off, why not use this as a stepping board to try and better our standerds to the international guys? the way we have been carrying on before this will still be there unchanged so there is no need to feel that your way of life will be thretened.
If I look at the duel servers its up to scratch to anything happening overseas, why should TDM & even CTF be any different for competitive play? if you want you can chuck 20 people on a 1 vs 1 map :| but if you want a propper duel you go to a server set up for dueling...
anyway I dont say we need to get everything right on the first go and think the GM guys are doing a great job so far but we should use this as a learning curve so we can all be better prepared for the next one.

well said sneaky.
And camel. i dont see beach soccer 'organised' games - all i see if a few buddies playign aroudn with a ball on the sand. this is/was (sorry haven't kept up) an organised tourny. yes it was for fun, but it was to see who was the best. so surely it should have been by rules - which you guys are all familiar with - and have been put in place for the better of the game and players by the top ppl in the world.
*shrugs* all i see is a couple off ppl who are so keen to start a flame war, that DJ's efforts have been put on the side while you all grab ur flame throwers.
let me ask your this: the guys who have played in DJ's tourny: did u enjoy it? cause from what i see no matter what the rules, you're going to have fun... and with certain rules in place it might actually force u to use what skill u have, instead of having a free for all, 'i can hit the broad side of a barn and get a frag' chaotic mess.
again. my 2c.
Chronic, I was a player in a big beach soccer competition here as well as in Poland. I was also involved in a massive beach Handball Competition here in SA, it was rather embarrasing for me since I was on the National handball Team, and my team lost to the Durbanite's.
But to the topic at hand Floruro used to play UT in the leagues in Europe. And team damage on is new to him, and he doesn't want to play it. So who says we don't play by rules the rest of the world does. But anyway, for now and this competition we have the rules set and we play with them, we can look at changing them l8r, like the next competition.
WHAT WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING HERE IS THE NEW MAPS TO REPLACE THE MAPS THAT ARE TO SMALL.
SO PLEASE FROM HERE IGNORE ANYTHING TO DO WITH RULES, AND LETS GET THE MAPS SORTED. I WANT TO SLAUGHTER nT, and to do that we need the maps sorted.
I recon gredlekeep for one 1 map and antulas for the other 1 of my suggestions my map spelling might bit a bit off thou but I am sure most of u get the Idea.
I think I'll just spectate future TDM matches.
I'm obviously too much of a fun loving noob to understand the need for these rules.
kthx. ggnore.
Asbestos and Roughinery need to be replaced. is there still another map that needs to be replaced?
Are we gonna shrink the map list by replacing them small maps with maps in the list like grendelkeep and antulus, or we gonna replace them with maps not in the map list allready?
anyway I dont say we need to get everything right on the first go and think the GM guys are doing a great job so far but we should use this as a learning curve so we can all be better prepared for the next one.
Thanks Sneaky - we are doing our best :) and we plan on doing more and more tourneys - and bettering the standards as we go! But now - I agree with you - even if the rules aren't right first time at least we all have fun - and - we can always fine tune things as we move forward
let me ask your this: the guys who have played in DJ's tourny
Even though MF hasn't won any matches - we enjoyed ourselves a load last night
WHAT WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING HERE IS THE NEW MAPS TO REPLACE THE MAPS THAT ARE TO SMALL
Yes I would like to sort this out quickly so I can see TDM moving forward
I think I'll just spectate future TDM matches.
I'm obviously too much of a fun loving noob to understand the need for these rules.
kthx. ggnore.
Shrimp - the rules aren't really that hard to understand - and if you did do something wrong someone would tell you very quickly! Just have fun - and if you break a rule "accidently" we'll forgive you - but if you intentionally use it to cheat... bla bla bla - we might have to spawn rape you till your UT feels obliged to report us.
Just join in and have fun!
Are we gonna shrink the map list by replacing them small maps with maps in the list like grendelkeep and antulus, or we gonna replace them with maps not in the map list allready?
I think we should replace them with Maps not in the list already - but that's up to everyoe - everyone give me their 2c - and we can decide from there.
this thread has been renamed - so that we can start a fresh Team Death Match thread when the map list has been changed
Appologies by "rules" I mean, Weapon stay off, team damage on and less players/bigger maps
IMHO Rankin should also be replaced.
I think Rankin was fine, I never played roughinery, but the other guys pretty much all agreed, that it was too small. But lets see, if the guys wanna change rankin too, then go mad.
Could we start having map suggestions. here is the link to all the map in the list currently http://www.gamemasters.co.za/maps/index.html . I play minimal dm or tdm so I don't know which maps to suggest.
I would recommend Kadeth, but it also might be a bit small, not sure.
Asbestos and Roughinery need to be replaced.
Now your pushing it, ASBESTOS > All :D one of my fovorite maps.
Sneaky u flaming bitch :P, I said map suggestions, not map flaming :P. U need a translator or a dictionary ??? ;)
rofl edited my post to late:P shall we start a new thread? Im all for killing any 1 vs 1 maps.
You claim to help support WCG? I'm just laughing my ass off right now.
du read it again, i said i traid to help and failed, but i could try again if presented with the oportunity, and if u dont remember me trying then ask bas about it. I did try, not to compete, but to help get players.
chronic, yes at times thats all most of us want to do, is just kick the ball around, and at times we put up makeshift goals with some slops. the SA infrastructure is not ready for international standards of gaming in games like UT, maybe CS cause there's like a 1000 of them, in ut at a peak we had what... 100?
anyways, back to the maps, how about metalorgy :P, thats a nice big map.
i said i traid to help and failed
Because you wanted everyone to play bombing run and instagib invasion and they told you to get fucked?
not ready for international standards of gaming in games like UT, maybe CS cause there's like a 1000 of them, in ut at a peak we had what... 100?
You are putting the cart infront of the horse - CS did not start out "kicking the ball around" and that could be why it grew.

Dude, quite frankly I resent the post you made that effectively was you saying good riddance to 42. I feel we can play whatever the hell we want, without silly little quips from the sidelines.
And given I've seen you so often of late on the pub servers, what makes your opinion valid and mine not?
Whenever we LANned with you guys, we played absolutely everything by your rules, save for when we were keen to get up a TDM using standard rules. Then it became a whole big issue, and nobody was prepared to play what we found fun. It was a two way street, but nobody drove the other way. That support relative to our wanting to better our skills for WCG purposes would've been nice. But it didn't happen. Which is why I laugh when you state you support an endeavour like that. Sure, perhaps you support the "initiative.". What about supporting some of the players that make competitiveness their hobby?
Fact is, with your posting what you did, I've lost a lot of respect for you. Not that I think you care, mind you. Or you wouldn't have posted something akin to an illogical PMS'ing woman in saying it's about time we left the community.
actually yes that was my statement (just wasnt going to be that rude, i'm trying to retain tact), thx for extracting that , on a personal level we have no issues, but when it comes to gaming we obviously have diffent views.
Personaly i think we got along and had a good time....
its not a matter of how much u respect me, really, i know u are a superioir gamer to the majority of us. and if u request it, i will give u the support u need. and yes, i remember tho's lans, but u have to see my perspective, i DONT compete. and neither does most of TA. so we dont play by any rules actualy, we just "kick the ball around".
and standard rules being what? plz that will be enlightening, who wrote the standard rules, for who did he write them, what was his motivcation, and why out of the blue did u decide to make it your bible?
lol, and u claim not to see me on the serves, if u as 42 made urselves available to the internet community to play, even if by our rules to show us our flaws, maybe our views would change, and we would all become enlightened. but stading on the side waving ur bible does not in anyway incite me to become a chirstian.
and karny u are so way off its stupid, i tried to actually organise an event that was meant as a qualifier for the WCG, only thing is i didn t know about the double elimination thing , and that is where i srewd up, so if u have any doubts with regards to that ask basilisk, he was there, my intentions were truly genuine.
well, is this a tournament or not?
If "inexperienced" clans cant handle the concept of not running around lobing rockets everywhere then they need to damn well learn. Whether it kills your team mate or not, it's irritating (to get pushed around by rockets, propelled into the enemy etc).
Either its a propper tournament with propper TDM rules, or it's a joke. Yes you're right - the rules are there to change the dynamic (as Mburr said) so that the no-skill aimless losers who shoot flack bombs all over the map kill their team mates and lose points and lose the game.
Have it your way, and if you think thats Team 42 (TM)(R)(C) rules then you're a retard.
mmmmm that's not right to say that about ppl you don't know
mac.......... but luckly we know you
so my left nut has better aim then you.
and here is a pic to prove it..... and who give's a shit what you guys in 42 thinks
your not playing ffs.
OH YOU'RE SO FUCKING COOL!
I'm surprised you didnt dig through your archive and find one from when I was on modem. Dude, really... Get a fucking life!
Oh look, I found one two.. I couldnt find one with you in it... infact I must have probably seen you online once in my life... but since we are posting retarded, pointless screenshots of random online TDM's I'll do the same.
It would appear I have 5% more LG acuracy - <swing dick here for measurement>
This is getting pointless... Why was UT comp invented? so people with bad eysight could play on public servers, I think not. The only thing UT has got going for it is its competitive factor which most well known and much more popular FPS does not have or take into account.
Nobody here wants to spoil the game for anybody if that is the perception being created. I dont have a problem with how we are playing the game at the moment and I enjoy it. I would like to see it grow however and getting stuck in a "this has how its always been done here" is not helping. Why not at least give it a try? clannys get played how often? once every two months? the rest of the time the servers will still be there unchanged.
Loosing players no matter what you might think of them is bad for everybody, especially in a community as small as this one. If you like the game you should help promote it and not break it down.
mmmmm that's not right to say that about ppl you don't know
mac.......... but luckly we know you
so my left nut has better aim then you.
and here is a pic to prove it..... and who give's a shit what you guys in 42 thinks
your not playing ffs.
Rofl Wow, you had 3 more frags than him,.
Why don't you post some pictures of the women you stalk?
;)
No no he is right... I'm completely useless at.. what is that.. uh "Squader" (WTF?).
I'll blame my framerate on the fact that I'm not so good on these arb maps with high mesh detail - you should look for some pics from roghinary if you want to make fun of me.
Would you like me to take some photos of my WCG medal?
I have seen women bitch and moan, but this thread close on insanity.
Be a men - FFS.
Right goes - I am closing the poll - and will have TDM up to date tomorrow :)
TDM can continue form tomorrow onwards - I will open the thread tomorrow
Maps have been updated.
I took the top four maps that were too small and replaced them with the top four voted maps for replacement - please let me know if there are still issues in this regard - otherwise I will open TDM forum for TDM Tier to continue tomorrow.
