Hey Xan,

1. Can you transfer a player to one of your own maps[ use 5 points ] and then can that same player move to a map that is not owned in the same turn ?

2. is the ladder going to be limited to 15 turns ?

3. does anybody know how to get hold of Raliator ?

Thanks

Yes, I think it'll be fine if we allow this.

2. is the ladder going to be limited to 15 turns ?

At the moment, yes. I had a think about it when I set the maps up and 15 turns should be enough to get somewhere meaningful. If we extend it we'll run the risk of players losing interest (15 weeks is already more than 3 months).

3. does anybody know how to get hold of Raliator ?

I'll PM you his MSN addy.

Hey Xan, Sorry one more....

Are we allowed team spectaters, it will just allow for the whole team to be involved as some players may not be in the current battle.

Last one i promise :)

Sure, I don't see any problems with spectators.

Just an additional note on that first point, Nevets - you can only transfer someone to a map if that map has a free spot.

Nevets, please note that I have changed my mind about the first point. I think a move using points should count as a complete move for that turn, ie no further moves for that player until the next turn. Hopefully this will balance things out better. :)

Xan,

According to the rules, matches with unbalanced teams can be played. I was just concerned about auto balancing on the servers.

Eg : a match that should be :

3 vs 5 server will make it 4 vs 4

will the admins be able to resolve this ?

Thanks

I was just concerned about auto balancing on the servers.

We've played such games before (3v5 IIRC), so it's definately possible. Admins can switch auto team balance off, I think.

What worries me more is the condition of the SGS servers. I joined a Frostbite game last night on the main server and that ended up exhibiting the same problems as the MOD and ONSLAUGHT servers.

We may have to play some games on the Gamezone servers until the SGS ones are fixed.

Yes, admins can disable auto team balance, no problemo. What is of more concern is that the servers restart themselves.

I'm going to try and host a server. I have a separate and quite powerful PC to do it on and maybe we can test it and see what performance we get?

I appreciate the effort, Cat, but how powerful is powerful? ONS needs a lot of beef as far as I know. The DSL might also struggle with anything more than 4v4...

Still, it's worth a shot! I wish we knew what was wrong with the SGS servers. :(

Xan, I can run the server on my primary machine (AMD4000+, 2GB extreme low latency memory, 10000rpm drives etc.) I'll play on the other one.

"Struggling" might still be better than a mid - game meltdown. ;)

Thanks, Cat. :)

I think we should try it out before Sunday, if possible. The specs are plenty meaty for an ONS server, but I'm worried about the bandwidth. ADSL's 50KB/s can only sustain around 10 players at 5KB/s. We've got 15...

Sorry to bud in,

But is there a reason for not using the MA svr?

Quite happy to offer

But is there a reason for not using the MA svr?

I seem to recall the MA server being a bit laggy with large amounts of ONS players, BUT that might just be me and my ISDN again. :o

I haven't heard anything about the SGS servers being fixed yet and I don't know if Gamezone's has everything we need. Katjie's bandwidth is also likely to be insufficient (sorry, Katjie - jou pypie is te klein ;)), so we'll probably settle on the MA server. :)
