Yo

I once tried to make a map through dacemaps forums tutorial. I didnt get very far as I got stuck . I would really like to create my own duel map. Is there someone willing to take the time- over a few weeks I suppose to help me learn unreal ED, or at least help point me in the right direction to start making duel maps?

All help dearly appreciated.

Daces Tutorials are quite helpfull for the "Beginner Map Maker", It's the best thing since sliced bread... My suggestion is: Do the tutorials about 3to 4 times, depending on how fast you catch on, once thats done you basically understand the fundamentals of map making...
Once you got all the do-dads sorted & you want a bit more terrain & stuff, do a search for map tutorials on google or something...

We'll have to see on that one. At the moment I don't have much free time, but perhaps in the future I will be able to help out.
For the moment, however, just ask your questions here, and I'll answer them as soon as I can.

BTW: Guys, does this mean I'm gonna see some more local maps? :)
It'd be nice to get a pack of local maps and put them on the local servers (if TP doesn't mind - the last local map pack never made it onto servers, never found out why)

Dace, isn't that tutorial on your site for UT2003?

It's pretty much 100% the same thing.

The basic principals of Unreal Engine mapping have remained the same since Unreal 1. Tutorials written for Unreal Tournament since the release of Unreal Ed 2 are still perfectly relevent. The only difference being StaticMeshes, Karma, and many Actors having different names and locations in the Actor tree...

Wish I had more time doing mapping, it's one of the most fun things to do with the Unreal engine. I like to do things which is out of the ordinary such as my WOLF3D_L1 map. Unfortunately these kinds of maps are usually not very playable. :P I still need to finish my DOOM3_L1 map for UT2K4.

What Shrimp said http://www.unreal.co.za/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

If you're having trouble finding packages from UT2003 in UT2004, quite a few of them have simply been renamed to a xWhateverItWasBefore.
Eg: MechMeshes --> xMechMeshes (Or something like that).

I got stuck at the thingy you make holes in the floor with :/

I thought that I'd modified that part of the tutorial slightly (but I was wrong http://www.unreal.co.za/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif, I'll get on it) to feature a link to Shrimp's 2d Shape Editor tutorial. Here's the link for the time being:
Shrimp's 2d Shape Editor Tutorial (http://www.unreal.co.za/shrimp/tutorials.php?view=tuts-ued_2dedit&history=%20UnrealEd%20(UT)%20%3E%3E%20The%202D%20S hape%20Editor%20%3E%3E)

BTW: The holes in the floor are merely decoration, they are not essential to completing the map. It won't be the end of the world if you continue the tutorial without making them http://www.unreal.co.za/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif
