View Full Version : Razer Diamondback
Thanks to all those that gave advise on the Razer, i went and bought one today.
I must say, it's a really awesome mouse, the feel and weight is so much better than my mx500, time will tell how much it will help my game :)

Since everyone's doubting it's got lots of buttons, how about a pic or two showing the extra button locations? :)
And give the Attachments system a bit of a work out :D

Is that little bit on the front next to the left button, a button?
I can't see any muttons aside from the left, middle and right buttons :P. Must be a stealth mouse ;)

Well, the Diamondback has a thumb and pinky buttons which each are 2 buttons within themselves as well as left and right mouse button and a scroll wheel which is clickable. So in total it is 7 buttons. The Diamondback also comes in a Chameleon or Magma Lava colour, which is basically either a 6110 finish or clear mouse.
The other advantages is that the DB is a 1600 DPI mouse with on the FLY SENS, not on the fly DPI, so you are always getting full DPI unlike the MX518 to come. The mouse is very light and if I could say a shape it would be similar to it would be the Explorer 3.0 or MX300.

Sandton Gaming and Computer world in Sandton City (down by the movies), i paid R699.
They also have the Razer exactmat for 300 or 400.
I bought one 3 weeks ago - best move i ever did
I can't use the buttons on the right hand side though.

*cough* the mx518, mx510 and mx500 all have 8 buttons, not just 7 *cough*
wow that thing is hideous! couldnt they have made it just a bit more attractive.
Logitech for teh win :)
i concur, based on what boogey said that he took his mx1000 back 4 times, and still the same issue, i started getting that issue, so i'm not even bothering taking the logitech mx1000 back, i went and bought the razer diamondback, at northgate for R660.
What an awesome mouse, moves buetifully, gonna take some getting used to (especially the button layout) but the movement and smoothness rawks.
I am now a true razer convert

Sigh, you all finally LISTEN!
Well for all of those that have been Razer FANS (LIKE ME) from the start would be interested to know that the Razer Boomslang II is going to be out middle of this year, I got an e-mail from Robert Krakoff (Razerguy) saying that the mouse is going to be optical, coming in three different designs (1000, 1600 and 2500dpi). Razer is also in the process of releasing their gaming keyboard as well as a material mousepad to compete with the Fatpad.

agreed
Now I just hope they make a mx318 :D
Why? Your 510 will eat a Razer any day even if it has 5 00000000000000000000000 dpi, guess they have to use something to try and sell something that ugly. Pretty soon they are going to release there 5 square CM uber leet gaming mouse pad to keep up with the high DPI as a normal pad will just be wasted space.

OK, so I succumbed to the temptation and the hype and I bought the Diamondback yesterday.
I also cannot use the buttons on the right hand side, except maybe the one closest to my wrist. After "a series of unfortunate events" on DM-Compressed I eventually disabled these buttons entirely.
General Impressions
It is much smaller and much lighter than the MX510. It is a lot more responsive and sensitive as well. The clicking action on the two main buttons, being fire and alt-fire is nicer than the MX510, primarily because of the non-slip indented surface of these buttons (whereas the MX510's are rounded and smooth).
Accuracy
Despite the fact that the entire feel of the Razer is new to me and I desperately wanted to plug my MX510 in again, I stuck with it for a while and my accuracy with the LG and the Shock rifle is already better than previously. I'm sure it will improve further with getting used to the new mouse.
Conclusion
It effectively has 5 buttons, since two of them are useless unless you're deformed.
It is a better mouse for DM and CTF, but I prefer the MX510 for onslaught.
Bottom line is, as soon as the MX518 comes out, I'm feeding the Diamondback to the cat (no, not myself).
Cheers
