__________________________________________________ ________________
Ok... We had a great meeting at the Carousel yesterday and all systems are go for a great event.
I can tell you guys that we have a great opening ceremony planned for Saturday morning the 30th of April and that there will be a new show starting the evening of the 30th of April in the Saloon for the traditional Arena party... (There will be free drinks this year)
In terms of the pricing:
We are working on a figure to suite everyone’s pockets and the sad news, (at this stage), is that The Carousel wanted a little too much. Meaning I have asked them to re-look their figures and come back to us on Tuesday morning. Only once we have their costs for the accommodation will we announce the entrance fee for the event.
It will be on Tuesday afternoon, sorry about the delay, but we really want the best possible price from the Carousel and they are going to have a meeting on Tuesday morning to come up with a new pricing structure.
Basically you will have three options, namely a fantastic Chalet with all the trimmings a basic Chalet or an empty (walls-only) Chalet.
We have pre-booked almost all of the available Chalets and 20 Hotel rooms for you guys, so please don’t think that there won’t be anything left come Tuesday afternoon.
Once we have the pricing, you will need to do the booking through the Carousel by quoting a reference number Arena 77 will provide you with next week.
We are also trying to accommodate a few more CS teams as a 'late entry' or 'last chance' group simply as a result of the amount of requests we received from this community. However, this is totally dependant on space, (we have looked at including another hall at the back of the section where the CS tourney took place last year). We will also look at how full the open LAN section gets by next week.
An announcement will be made on Wednesday afternoon regarding this possibility.
We are also entertaining the idea of having a special section for 40 or so gamers wanting a little extra special treatment in their own arena. More on this will be released on Wednesday.
Shout-casting will be done from the event and the spectator area will have two plasma screens courtesy of Rectron where commentators will fill you in throughout the weekend on the happenings of CS.
Should you need anything don’t hesitate posting your questions here or sending a mail or contacting me via phone. (Just don’t phone late at night or I may just be rude)
Len
update from Len
So... just to reiterate;
The UT section will be separate from the Open LAN as it is a competition.
I can assure you that the same professionalism you have come to expect from Arena 77 and VC will shine through at this event. It makes no difference what the prize is at the end of the day. If we say we are running a competition.... We are running a professional competition. Remember that Arena 77 is focussed on competitive events, not just normal LAN's.
And...... As far as I am concerned, R2000 first prizes as well as hardware prizes are nothing to sneeze at, right? I mean... it is a cool prize, right?
Sure... it is not a trip overseas, but... it is still cool as far as I am concerned.
Furthermore... The live draw taking place at Rectron next week Friday is for the group stages of CS as well as UT. Meaning we have invited people to be a part of an event where you may have drinks and snacks and find out who you will face in the first stage of the competition.
We have made no separation between CS, UT and WCIII. What we have done, is separate the comp section from the Open LAN section.
Should you want to be at the live draw next week, simply send a mail to admin@arena77.com (admin@arena77.com) with your name and surname along with the names of the friends and or relatives that will be joining you so that we may cater for everyone coming. This will not cost you a cent and will start at 4:30 at Rectron on Friday the 8th.
Cheers
Len
From Len forums:
We will have a live draw at Rectron on Friday the 8th of
April for the group stage of the Rectron ESWC 2005 competition.
This is when you will find out who your opponents will be.
Everyone is invited and we will be serving snacks and (cold) drinks.
You are welcome to arrive from 4PM to mingle and chat and the draw will take place at 4:30PM.
Should you want to attend, simply send a mail to admin@arena77.com (admin@arena77.com) with the subject heading "draw".
In your mail tell us how many people will be coming with you or if you have just sent the mail RSVP'ing for yourself.
A simple number of people will not do as I need to have you names.
PLEASE DON'T JUST ARRIVE ON THE 8th AS YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY!!!
You need to RSVP so that we may cater for everyone properly.
Cheers guys, see you there!

Where's Nautilian and Gamos etc :(
Gamos does not do competitive gaming at all. Ut99 nearly ruined my marriage, so I am an enthusiastic spectator nowadays. :)
Oh, and don't get me started on the politics regarding 1on1 games!
As for Naut, I am gonna kick his ass (IRL) when I see him!
Now if they had a CTF clan bash, I would have been there :) Koltagon2000 anyone?
No man, it's just for fun :P;)
[N]Haja

damn, and I was just about to sign up, oh well, mayybe next year :p
There's still the open LAN if you just want to jol :D. Looking forward to that more than the competition ;).
<A>BioGizzard
07 Apr 2005, 12:24
me2, as i'm only going to last one game anywayz, unless i can play throiugh my state of the art 33,600 adsl connection
Gamos - With respect to competitive gaming - just do it for fun.
Who cares if u get spawned a few times -
I have a busy schedule and squezze in ut when I can
Fanatic lauke - trained for 8 hours a day -
I mean really - when I come back from the comp - i still got my job :)
Mudd@, I know. As much as I would like to 'do it for fun', paying an entrance fee of Rxxx is just not my idea of fun when I know I will be raped 25-0.
With Ut99 I used to play at least 5 hours a night. I had my turn :)
Ahhh - its the cost -
But it wont just be the 1on1 comp i will be going for - I want to take part in the team ctf & tdm - so the 1vs1for me is only part of the whole thing.
200 bucks for Friday, Sat and sunday - doesnt sound too bad. I believe the past events have been pretty good - anyone on ut forum - been to one in the past ? This will be my first
No, it is really not the cost. :)
To be brutally honest, I am just too old for this shit. :)
I grew far too comfortable in my little dark Internet connected corner at home to worry about lifting my ass to compete at some event. I'll let the young'uns bash it out. :P
Oh and I don't duel anymore either. :) I had my time with UT99 and now it is no more than a fun waist of time on some CTF server. :)
Clearly, Gamos has finally attained enlightnment :)
[N]Haja
07 Apr 2005, 15:12
dunno bout enlightenment, but shes sure packs the smileys in :) Must be learnign from someone i know :)
I think the problem is also that players that have won or only accept winning cannot find a middle ground. They want to be the best, so they will do what it takes (practice 8 hours a day etc), and some players outgrow this, and would rather refrain from playing competetively all together as they know that if they just do a "little" bit of competiton, they will be sucked in and before you know it, their grades will be sub standard, their wives would have left them, or they would lose their job from constantly "being sick".
Just my take on why some of the better players refrain from competitions as they get older. Time and responsibilites start to take strain and preference, respectively.
She?
Haj, there is something I need to tell you boet! :P
What Haja said in a nutshell: I am to old for this shit... :)

Do you need to be registered for the 1 on 1 comp if you want to play in the clan based CTF and TDM matches, or is it ok if you're just registered for the open LAN?
Yo Gamos - how old r u dude ?
Ta has the most over 30 year old players :)
I have a firend who is 36 and an active player on a social level.

From what I hear, the UT comp section will be connected to the open lan when no competition matches are being played (but UT servers are stable, so I doubt they'll even need to disconnect it in the first place...), and so I don't think where you sit will be a problem for the team games - the only issue is that you won't be sitting next to your teammates, which does suck a bit.

I'm with you guys. I was at the group draw ceremony, and told Len about the brother pairs in the same groups (it's quite an insane irony, if you ask me). He said he couldn't redraw the groups because that would undermine the integrity of the tournament, and he has a point. But I'm sure the tourney director (Warcow) wouldn't mind if you guys made private arrangements to swop. Maybe just confirm it with him: jian@arena77.com

Seems to be space left! 51/54 competitors according Arena77 site...
From Len - the action starts 10am friday the 29th :) the comp starts saturday.
- If you are a competitor; make sure you have read and understood all the rules of the respective games you will be competing in. If you don’t understand, kindly send us a mail and we will assist you as quickly as possible.
- If you are a CS competitor; make sure you have downloaded the GUI as you will not be allowed to compete without the official ESWC 2005 GUI. We will be running anti cheat software in addition to enforcing all server settings such as Rates, meaning you will not be able to play on rates that fall outside the allowed parameters.
- Any person caught with cheats installed on your pc (whether you use them or not) will be asked to leave the tournament immediately. You will be denied access to all future Arena 77 events and your name and nick will be banned from our website.
- In CS the use of console is STRICTLY forbidden, so make sure you disable the key or you will face disqualification from dropping your console at any stage during the tournament unless you have an Arena 77 administrator assisting you with a setting change essential for the running of your game. In other words, before you drop the console you are required to call an admin, explain what it is you would like to do and why you need to drop
- Powerstrip is allowed, so too is boosting in CS as long as you are not standing above a doorway when firing your weapon or throwing a grenade or flashbang and you may not use boosting to gain an unfair viewing advantage such as peering over textures in a map.
- In CS, team managers and Ghost talk are allowed. We kindly ask that you keep you voice down so as not to disturb your fellow players. Rude and load behaviour will not be tolerated
- Custom models are not allowed in CS
- Bright skins are allowed in UT
- You may not plug in your own power 5 plug adaptor nor do we make provision for two pin plugs for items such as an external sound device or a cell phone charger. Kindly make other plans as each person will only be allowed to use two three pin plug points.
- Understand that every inch of the floor is covered by surveillance cameras so your equipment is safe. However, please do not simply leave items such as wallets, cameras or cell phones lying unattended on your desk.
- The Carousel is our host and as such we ask that you respect the rules of the venue. Be courteous and friendly their staff, as it will affect future events held there. Do not create any loud disturbance within the Chalets or harm any property whilst using the facilities.
- Alcohol will not be served to under 18’s and you need to stay away from the Casino Gambling floor if you are under the age of 18. Kindly carry your ID book with you should you look younger that 18. Please do not be upset if you are asked to leave the floor whilst gambling and you are not able to produce your ID document. (The Carousel stand to loose their gambling licence should any person under 18 be on the floor, please do not cause an awkward scenario by going in should you not be of age)
- Competing in this event carries no age restriction, however only people over 16 will be allowed to travel to France for the ESWC 2005 final.
- All participants are requested to keep their nametags on at all times… don’t worry, it only has your nick on :) This will give you access into the Saloon free of charge should you be over 18 for show and the party on Saturday night as well as your free drink at the door.
- The event will open doors at 10:00 on the morning of the 29th of April (Friday morning)
- It will stay open for the entire weekend and will close after the prize giving ceremony on Sunday evening.
- The UT, CS and WCIII competition will start on Saturday morning immediately after the team leader briefing at 09:00
- Every competitor is requested to be at the event by no later than 08:00 on Saturday morning the 30th of April. The show girls will officially kick off the event at eight with a small showcase of what you can expect to see later that evening. There will be a short welcoming speech followed by the team leader briefing in the Pavilion room above Giovannis Ristorante where we will go through all the rules and regulations and answer any questions before the event kicks off.
- The final matches will take place on sponsored equipment setup within the CS arena
- The competition starts as a round robin and then moves over into a double elimination. Please refer to the group listing below this article.
- Please drive carefully on your way to the event, stick to the speed limit and be patient as it is a long weekend so the roads will be quite busy. There is a religious gathering in Pietersburg next weekend so expect a lot of Mini Taxi’s on the road.
- Each person entered into this event will receive something and you will have an absolute party. Remember… this is for you, please bear that in mind and be responsible.
Cheers see you soon!

The '@' signs the culprit...
Note the following:
- You will go through a registration desk when you enter the Sports Arena at the Carousel. There you will pay your entrance into the event and you will recieve your gift courtecy of Rectron as well as your name tag. You will be directed to your area that you have registered for.
You will then go through a power testing facility to make sure that there are no shorts in your pc. This may at times slow the process of entry down, but it will save your computer from harm as well as make sure our power will not trip when you plug your PC in.
- Please make sure you park your car in the main parking lot and go through the side entrance where you will see Rectron and Arean 77 banners. The entrance to the Sports Arena is just to the right of the main entrance should you be facing the Carousel.
