Sup guys,

I've just bought a new seagate 320g SATA II drive (put my old IDE drive in an external enclosure) and installed XP on it yesterday. Yet it only shows the drive as a 130gig max or so. This is after installing all the drivers, SP2 etc etc. checked in my bios for some settings, only thing relating to SATA is enable SATA controller, and enable AHCI. both these turned on yet nada. Motherboard is a Asus A8R-MVP.

Any help will be appreciated.

your xp disc is it sp1 or no sp? if so i believe your problem lies there use a xp disc that has sp2 integrated and it should be fine :)

Oh Sam... try this:

Right click on my computer

click "Manage"

Then... "Disk management"

then click on your disk in the list, and check if there isn't a big black gap showing "Unpartitioned space" :P:P

This might be seen as an obvious solution, but maybe this is what happened.

What I think happened is you installed XP without a slipstreamed SP2 on it, so then it only picks up 130GB and unpartitions the rest.. So now you will be stuck with your harddrive split up in 2/more partitions (depending on you), if you want the whole harddrive as one partition you will have to slipstream SP2 onto a XP CD (I can show you how), and then you need to reinstall windows onto that hdd, and format the hdd obviously

Hope this works

If slayer's or Macera's advice doesn't work.

Double check what format you used to format your disk, CHS, LBA etc.. etc..
LBA ftw!

fdisk in cmd prompt will tell you what format you're using. I'm not talking about FAT32 or NTFS.

check for a small jumper on the drive - if its is there REMOVE IT. a few SATA drives come with this to limit drive speed and/or space.
