Setting a vpn in Linux

Been trying to set up a working vpn for the last few weeks in Kubuntu 7.04 )Feisty.
The vpn connects successfully, but no traffic is routed through the vpn (even with the option turned on).

Any help will be helpful.

PS. Already tried most of the stuff on ubuntuforums.com

Basically need to get the vpn that works fine in windows, to work in linux.

First off

Linux is great! Im not a lobbyist that says lets burn ms down. I just prefer Linux.

Simple.

1. PopTop VPN Software ( google link, :P )
2. Go through documentation there ( I think you already done that)
3. You need to set ip forwarding :D


3.a) vi /etc/sysctl.conf
3.b) net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

4. restart pptpd
5. Keep messages log open to see entire connection process

I also wanna start experimenting with Linux this year... I'm red hat 8 qualified, so I kinda know some basics, but I really wanna start doing something worth while... where would be a good place to start?

one mistake I have made in the past: symptom - the vpn connects but no traffic routes through.

I was connecting 2 LANs on the same subnet. Won't work. be sure that you are connecting to a different subnet ;)

I tried this method the other day again in a VM. Still did not get to work, also tried with the network-manager-pptpd package from the repos , it didn't even connect.
