Been busy with my new install and consists of the following,

2) 15" blackair 2+ sub (650RMS, 2000w peak power)
3) rainbow 6" co-axials (80RMS)

www.vibeaudio.co.uk (http://www.vibeaudio.co.uk) , www.rainbow-audio.de (http://www.rainbow-audio.de)
recently had a DB meter test. The meter that was used was from IACSA. The car is currently doing 149DB:yay: .
Will post some pics later

Hey Cirius,
You got the KX range, of the Rainbows? (http://car.rainbow-audio.de/products/details.php?lan=2&pro=1&lin=10&art=231517)
They look identical to the older MB Quarts (also made in germany) before they went for the composite baskets. Any idea if they made in the same factory?
probably haja...mb quart play frikken well and so do the rainbows. Scally i listen to everthing....everything. Went with the coax's could i wanted to leave the front stage install factory standard.

what specificaly confuses you? :P
I may end up writing a 10 page answer, as I love car sound so much, so beware.
BTW Cirius. I was reading an interesting article in the Latest CA&E magazine on the weekend. They say co-axials actually give better sound than splits if positioned correctly. There is a rule called the 'half wavelength rule' that actually works such that id a tweeter is more than 100mm or so from the mids, the signals are out of phase.
The trick though is placing the drivers equidistance from the listeners ears (in an isometric triangle configuration) so as to keep the timings correct.
Thats why kickpanels are the best for placement.
Anyhoo, sure you know all of this, just thought it was interesting, as I always thought co-axials were 'for noobs' and splits were the shizzle. Seems a good co-ax placement outdoes a good split system.
well i tend to agree with the install i have....the clarity i get out these coax's are noticably better than the splits i had. The current coax's i have are 35RMS short of splits that i had. However for install without worry i think the splits are better way to go.
Ps: Will post pics 2nite....been a bit busy. Haja i got the soundline ver http://car.rainbow-audio.de/products/details.php?lan=2&pro=1&lin=8&art=231147

Totally true haja, but as it said, positioned properly. This is always very important. for me there are a number of things that make a split system stand out.
1. They are less harsh. (depends i know, but i know what i am talking about not in the mood for an essay ;))
2. Better stage.
3. The most important. Crossovers.
With good brand speakers, they have brilliant compontant crossovers, essential in good sound reproduction.
So far what i have found, co'axs sound good, they fool the ear with a harsh and vibrant sound. It is simply not as accurate as a good split system.
My 2c.
P.S i would kill ppl for ur system Ciruis. I know it'ill sound the beans! :)

ye, I agree scally. The thing is, I have never used a good co-axial speaker, so I cannot really comment 100%.
I see though, that you can do the whole cross over thing with a good co-ax nowdays. Infact, you are getting quite a few split systems where you can clip the tweeter into the centre of the speaker, or have it seperate. Best of both worlds I guess.
I always read that splits were better due to (as you mentioned) you can raise the soundstage. Thats why I like to mount the tweeters higher than the mids. I guess there are always new things happening in car audio, and alot of these findings are aimed at true audiophiles. I think some of the differences would be hard to spot by an average user.
oh ye, I thik the main reasoning behind keeping a tweeter and a mid close is that the brain can tell that there are 2 different positions for the speakers, which causes some kind of void in the reproduction. If anyone is interested, I will sumarise the article.
BTW, you guys should subscribe to CA&E. I paid about R180 and got 2 years subscription. I get it every month in the post :)
CA&E ?? explain a bit more....btw the whole system with install cost under R8000. My price of course...which if you want will be extended to UZA.

Car Audio and Electronics. One of the best Car audio magazines in my opinion. These guys take it to the next level.
A copy locally costs about R100, I got 24 issues for round R200 or so. The 1st one takes 3 months to get here, but after that, you get them every month, in time :)
Cirius, I will def be calling on you in the near future. I am currently looking at an E36 BMW, so if I get it, I will be putting a new install in it.
Thanks for the offer though, appreciate it :)
kewl man...np....btw i think for a couple of days i can get the Vibe slick A7 for about R3000 or the vibe slick A7 with 3 vibe 10" (450RMS) for R3999. The A7 amp retails for R5500 normally. Let me know if you interested?

22 Feb 2007, 09:38
dang, 1 ohm stable, mmmm, soo tempting. Anyone know how to hypnotise wives? :)
btw, how would you put 3 x 10". The best you can get is 1.33ohm.
If I remeber, thats why JBl make those 3 ohm speakers, so 3 in parallel make it 1 ohm stable?

149 with one sub..........o m f g.
jesus dood that is serious.
sexy as well ; )
well i run one sub in my car and it works like a bomb....i drive a A3 Audi with one 12" dvc sub calibra. When you buy sound you have to take the car size and the spec's of the inside of your car into account .... plus the wood you use to build your box with.I use superwood yes very pricy, but more dens then if you don't drive a good car you have to place some rubber in the door's,roof and under your feet or something that keeps the sound in the car i use a type of rubber, that has a rubber end on the one side and is very soft on the other.....light yet dens to keep the sound in the car, plus i don't add a ton to my car :).....so yes you can run it with one sub just need to build in very good.its not like the old days where you have to go with two 15" subs to get something out of your car.... know a guy the has two 8" sub's in his car that would put two 15" to shame.... but small cars like golf's A3 audi's Beetle's fords ST's and them shape car's can give you a nice placed DB out put...If done correctly.....Chrs Gizzlo
Well said gizz, most of the "decent" car audio equipment today can reach high DB's. As you say a lot of it is down to the install and way in which has been carried out and followed through. I have been itching to do my audi....i'm just too scared to "de-face" it. One thing i would love to know tho...my A3 has got a built in 8"sub on rear left panel in the boot. Do know if you can change this without modifying or cutting the car?
Jaja, its ok, but just the other day i got my nfs car these: http://www.patcha.it/NFSU2/Milano/CadillacEscaladeSound3.jpg.
Manta knows, its impressive...
