Just want to ask a question, adsl has been launched yesterday but I found out that at telecom it is linked via satellite to S.A and the rest of the world.
So I am guessing high latency and it is not worth it, I am planning on getting a 512kb line but if it is linked via satellite out of the country it is no use, won't be able to play UT.
I have another solution I can get a 64kb digicon line or 128kb line which is routed via fiber to S.A. This will be playable but the price is crazy for the 64kb line you pay 650N$ a month and 128kb 950N$ a month and I am guessing you get a 3 gig cap but once over your cap you pay 245 for an extra 1 gig. :(
so I can get either a 64kb line or the 512kb adsl line which cost 50N$ more than the 64kb digicon line.
Howsit Poitr, as i said bro....u have to find out if there isnt a chance that u linked to at least SA NOT through the satellite.....the last time i was there i heard traffic only gets routed through the satellite if the lines get very busy and overloaded with traffic....I reckon you should be fine if u order the DSL512K .....pop into telkom and see if u can run a couple of tests from there....ive given u details..i mean Windhoek isnt a big place....u will be close to the exchange in any case:D
Lemme know whats happening....

I assume you're doing this through mweb Namibia? if so you then you'll connect to SA Via fixed line only breaking out of here to US or Europe will be over satellite.... In Anycas I have 512ADSL here which connects internationally over sat and I'm sitting with a 570ms roundtrip from the states not too shabby considering that WoW works great for me on Stormrage server in the US

hehe, yeah, thats why i say as well, he will be connected to SA via FL and to the rest of the world through satellite....which is fine because u will be playing UT only on our local servers:D Poitr...get eeeeeeeeeeet!!!:D:D

mwahaha..we is getting stronger by the years. well i am happy with my 128k line for now..will only move over to dsl if it runs on the fiber for sure...i need first hand ppl's advise not some stories about..ooh yeah of course it'll run on the fibre.
Since we have to sign a 2 year contract..and it will suck if it is to be sent via satelite..coz then you will be stuck with a fat pipe but cant play ut for 2 years....and i think the fibre will be overloaded to SA..thus satelite will be the storie at the end of the day..but EVE-online might benifit from that in the end tho..but i needs my ut kick..every second day or so..

I applied today for ADSL, so as soon as I get it I will see if it was worth it, I couldn't stand waiting any longer. And I rather have an 512kbps line with a 3 Gig cap for 700 bucks, and installation is for free, and a free modem and 150 mins free local calls then pay 950N$ for a 128KPBS xdl line which goes via fibre straight to S.A and you have to pay 245N$ per 1 gig.
I will let you know Berz how the line goes and we should duel sometime :)
