I have been with telkom for a while now - but I am tired of talking to a dumb ass on the other side of the phone when I have experienced slow response and some web sites not coming up.
I have also experienced frequent disconnects from some online gaming.
Which adsl isp would you recommend and why and then of course - how much?

If you are in JHB, Isoftnet, simply because their JHB branch gives really great personal care, their prices are pretty good and I have experienced min issues with the technical quality of the service. I'm not sure exactly what I am paying, but it's about R170 for 2gb.

Openweb still give you stax of download space. I use 2dsl providers webafrica for international surfing and 3 openweb 30gb (local and cheap) accounts i share with a mate. I use a program called routesentry, it automatically chooses the correct dsl account ( international vs local) while u surf. Bit of a mission to setup though.
My dsl never sleeps.... lil light is always flashing on my poor dsl router. She works hard for her money :D

unfortunately..i was brought up with family values. Therefore i have to use my uncle's ISP. You know keep the business in the family and all that...Ne ways i pay R285 for 3GB and R90 per gig over www.iactive.co.za (http://www.iactive.co.za)

I have to add that Web Africa is really awesome... EXCELLENT service, they even got MSN Adsl support! :P And I think the longest I've ever wated for the phone to be answered is like 5minutes... real nice man! :)

you can also purchase prepaid local only SAIX bandwidth from WebAfrica @ R19 per GB. So lets say for instance you are using 5 GB's per month on UT (which I doubt) that would cost you less than R100
prepaid bandwidth ftw!

I hate to say it, but those prices just seriously aren't competitive.
WA is R198 for 3GB and R70 per gig over. Thats 30% and 23% cheaper respectively, which is a big difference.

I've had my billing and account switches fucked on a regular basis, but dealing with it was painless - i think thats the main thing...

Customer Service vs User Greed :P
Telkom = Crap service.
Zyron = Greed, pay for a 3gb account and get to use 7gb at times.

Was wanting to ask a question for some time now... maybe you can help... what is the deal with Local? Is there even 30GB of stuff worth downloading locally??? Well seeing that I mostly only post on local forums, play on local servers... maybe I should get it... is it possible to get a combination? Like 3GB International and then like a 20GB/30GB local... but IS ain't good for gaming I've heard... lol...

I moved from axxess 5gig account to a Web Africa 10gig account. Haven't had any issues. My main reason for moving was constant disconnections as well something that I have not yet experienced with Web Africa.

Phunnei you should mention that hey... I had a 20GB axxess account back in the Pre 1 Nov 2005 days... and we also used to get disconnected around 19:00 in the evenings... nothing like that has ever... EVER happend with Web Afirca! :D

Of course man, you need to get onto the local torrents sites (Please note I am not promoting or condoning the downloading of pirated goods ;))
I don't know the sites anymore and how to get invites to them. But I do know that you need to go onto IRC, don't know what channel it's on, tho I think it's on the ethereal server...
Just pop onto IRC, ask around - I'm sure someone there will be able to direct you :)

WH, IS is not that bad for gaming, at least for me. I get better pings most days than on a SAIX account.
Check out Openweb, they got nice deals, for IS particularly. YOu get the R159 account with 2 gig int and 28 gig local (only the 1st 2 gigs are int) but you can pay a bit extra and get a VPN to surf int once you are capped (64k connection, good enuf to check these forums, which is hosted internationally BTW, despite the .co.za :P )
