I have found that this config has given me the greatest accuracy ranging from 50-60% LG aim.
This is a bright display and I will convert this for the people that prefer the darker looking screen. I can say that this is probably one of the smoothest configs I have ever had.
Try it out, once you are in game online open up your console and type in stat fps (this will display your frames), notice how they sit at 85. Close down the console and hit the DELETE key and notice what happens to the frames. Please note that if you run vsync this will not work. I will release an article on how to make this modification to your config.

thanks for sharing naut. I was checking out some of your shots in ATDM last night... very cool indeed ;p
just a few questions... I hope im not derailing your thread.. if so let me know and ill just edit my post. Do you think a 19" screen would be better to use than a 17" screen?
how do you rate the mx518? is there a different mouse out there that you would recommend for accuracy?
also, do you think your accuracy will improve a little by using the razer control mousepad?
thanks dood ;D
Thanks, going to grab it now, test and give you my EXPERT opinion on it LOL :D

won't everyone running around with 10001 netspeed cause even MORE lag on the servers?
Nautilian

A 19" screen is what the standard is at any competition; you will notice a significant increase in gameplay/accuracy when moving from a 17” to a 19”. Your next question would obviously be which is better a CRT or LCD? I find that CRT is still king, however finding CRT monitors of late is one of the biggest man hunts out there. Although you can get a cheap 19” monitor, trying to find a 0.20dpi CRT is like a needle in a haystack. LCD needs a great adjustment as you cannot render at 800x600. I had to move up to 1024x768 and it had a great change on my settings. Once you are used to an LCD there is obviously no going back.
The MX518 is a great mouse, don’t get me wrong, however I personally see many things wrong with the mouse. If you look at most professional gamers of today a lot of them threw out their MX518, G5 and Copperheads, going back to the classic mice like the Microsoft WMO and Explorer 3.0. The reason behind this is that manufacturers were so amped at who could get the best dpi and gimmicks into a mouse that players started to find that the technology was actually going backwards. Microsoft has introduced the Habu, which was a reinvention of their popular Explorer 3.0 just housed with a laser engine. The mouse is a step in the right direction, one that I would highly recommend. A few players like Draven and Alien have the mouse and I believe swear by it. Another new comer that is also getting high recognition from gamers is the Razer DeathAdder which is also going back to its roots.
Remember when reading reviews on these mice, forget about how many meters/second it takes to get the mouse to skip. Rather judge the mouse on your OWN opinion and how it feels in your hand. What you may like somebody else probably will not. However one thing must remain true to a mouse and that is ergonomics. Also remember when you get a new mouse, it usually takes about 1 month for you to get used to it, so always have patience with a mouse. Your game is going to go for a ball of poo.
Would I replace the MX518 with a Habu or DeatherAdder? Most certainly!
I am happy that you actually asked about mousepads. A lot of players forget that the surface greatly contributes to accuracy and how a mouse performs. I personally feel the Razer Mantis Speed and Control is a rubbish mousepad. It is overpriced, overrated and does not perform.
If you are a person that is looking for some resistance on the mouse I would look at the Everglide Titan which can be found here: http://www.everglide.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=42
If you are a person that is looking for more glide on the pad I would look at the Qpad CT which can be found here: http://www.corporate.qpad.se/modules/news/index.php?storytopic=3
Both these pads can be purchased directly from the site and are delivered within 7 working days.
Hope that helps

Haja;62951']won't everyone running around with 10001 netspeed cause even MORE lag on the servers?
No haja, because the server has a limit of 7000 netspeed. All that you are doing is fooling the engine to believing that it has a netspeed of 10000 and forces your FPS up. Try making your netspeed 250000, you should then actually be sitting on a ping of 200 because of the amount of data being transfered however the server limits you.
Hope that helps

Thanks alot Naut for the insightful post.
Ill try your config when I get home ;D
Thanks man
Well Naut lovely config, seems very similar to GitzZz's in some ways.
I can definitely feel the stabilty now in aim whilst using your INI's...
I made a few personal changes which are my normal settings...
1) Shrank the Hud down to smallest, and made it a very see through color blue, to reduce it taking up the screen.
2) Changed weapon config to my style:
q=mini
e=link
f=LG
C=shock
X=bio
Mousewheel FWD= Shield
Mousewheelback = Rlauncher
Bottom thumb on mouse = flak
That's about all, otherwise excellent config which I will be def be using to see how it helps my aim.
PS: What FOV is that? 90? I actually like it...helps accuracy it seems :)
PPS: Going to change some of the other Xhairs, but I do use the same as u for LG and SR atm ;)

My fov is 85 which is actually in line with most international configs.

Haja;62965']BTW, a while back you swore by the Mantis, why the sudden change?
Haj, you have a mantis, ever notice that the pad is not as accurate as when you got it the first time? Washed the pad and notice that the friction on the pad has decreased? Notice that the teflon is starting to peel away and that not even superglue will keep it down?
You see, that is exactly why I hate cloth pads! Mine is still snuggly in its packaging tube and my floor tile going strong :)

hmmm, maybe I play less than you :p
I still have not washed my pad, as it is not really dirty yet. The only degredation on my pad is a slight scuffing at the bottom where my wrist sits. But I suppose over time, it will degrade.
My everglide when I first got it also rocked, after 3 months, the centre went smooth, and I had to throw it away. So ye, I guess all mouse pads wear :(

I have a standard logitech mouse, cost me 90 bucks and I find it sweet but it is giving me problems, like sometimes it just points to another direction, I like lifting up my mouse could that be the problem and my mouse sensitivity is 0.80 and it sucks to turn 180, isn't there a key I can bind to do a 180 turn or something that will help a lot. thx and I can't wait to play you guys :)

Someone that used it? That would be kewl... as for the pad issue... I use a Xtreme-Pad... and I love it... it only costs R100 aswell, so it's not too expensive to replace! :P

The config rocks, I am defiantly going use it ;) thx, the models look awesome nice and have cool graphics and can see them coming from miles, xhairs are also cool, just need to get use to it now then I will be one happy man . I tried playing on 800 x 600 before but my mouse sensitivity was 0.80 but 0.58 is perfect for that resolution. Just have 1 problem and that is turning 180 degrees, if someone comes behind me I usually dodge away coz I turn around way to slow with that mouse sens.
Is there a way to bind a key to turn 180??

yo,
Tried the config, seems to be quite nice I must say. FOV on 85 is weird, specially on my 21" monitor (been running 100FOV for as long as I can remeber, used to use 110).
The only problem I have is that it seems incredibly jerky on my pc, even after doing the 'delete' thingy to bring fps up (goes up to around 100 fps).
It may have been the servers last night though, will see again later this week.

so my sens should be 0.145 at 1600dpi? Eish, I need to get a tarphaulin for a mouse pad then.
Dont you guys like using 120 fov or am i the only noob here or something? i cant stand a lower fov because i've been using an fov of 120 for sooo long, I dont even remember playing ut2k4 or q3 on a lower fov :)
[N]Haja
17 Jan 2007, 10:18
eish, that FOV has some advantages, and some really great players have used it, as it makes your aiming more linear. But try a lower FOV, it helps with your upclose battles and aim IMHO. Also, on 120fov everyone looks like they on speed (what size monitor you play on advent?)
Jinx - it seems when you double your DPI you halve your sens. not sure if i agree with that, but perhaps thats the theory.
cYan1D3
17 Jan 2007, 10:50
I use to play UT2k4 on 120 fov, nice and fast, Saint told me to use 85 fov, it is much slower then 120 but once I got use to it I saw I that played much better. I play quake 3 osp 1.3 on 120 fov, nice and fast and sweet, might try to slow that down I bet my accuracy would increase.
I also noticed it is much easier to do super dodges on a 800 x 600 res, i go further or it just feels that way.
@ advent I think I am the biggest nOOb here, have no experience, and I hear it is experience that counts.

problem is you get so used to your own config, eventhough nauts config may be teh shizz for him, or is just too different for others, and unless you take 2 weeks to get used to it, its lieky\ly you are going to battle on it.
That being said, 85 FOV and that big green x-hair def made my acc alot better, not 100% sure about those models in CTF maps and what have you. I must say, the config may be tweaked more for duels and all out DM and CTF.

Enigma (uber duper OMW WTF did he come from, where is my head gone good) used to play 120FOV, so there is no 'standard' IMHO, just more of a 'norm'. I suppose on a lower FOV, the chars are bigger, making it easier to hit them.
On my 21" CRT though, 85 FOV is just too big, I need to run around on my mouse pad for about 2 minutes before making a turn.

I really don't get these low sens's ...I think it's fair to say my aim is really pretty good, but I use a sens of 1.00 on 800dpi (FOV @ 100). I have a really fast mouse pad too.
I've tried lower, but while my aim doesn't seem to improve or disprove, it just serves to severely hamper my movement.
You uber low sens players will get pwnd in UT2007 and just up that sense again. It is just because UT2004 is nothing but LG that aim is everything. A medium to high sens player will circle strafe around you without reply in Ut2007. Ut99 proved that!

Hey all,
I just tried Nauts config recently, and I must say its pretty nice.
But damn slow! My aiming certainly improves, seeing as everybody moves in slow motion (85 FOV compared to my usual 110 FOV). But then again, dodging is much harder, while in a defensive situation . You really have to anticipate your enemies movements, a few seconds in advance. So I did managed to take advantage of this "free time" in difficult situations, to analyse the best way, combination of movements to take down your adversary.
Finally the settings are great, I must admit. I would just put the screen up to 1024 x 768.

Everyone will find something different in Nauts config, since everyones PC are configured differently.. the idea is to use his config and set basic settings to your style.. that would include: Mouse sens, weapon buttons, FOV, Xhairs, and other miscellaneous settings.

If this post was also pointed at me >.< im not a n:confused: :confused: b, altho i might not have been clear on my previous post, what i wanted to say was.
Does Nautilian actualy play with his sence so slow as i am Exp now? or is it so slow cuz of my dpi mouse (MX500)
Manta
I think you are n0ob because if you read my post you'll see that I said everyones PC is different, IE: Drivers etc.
So to answer your question, his Sensitivity is normal - it probably just seems dead slow to you since your pc has different drivers which makes it seem almost dead slow.
For EG again, if someone else uses his config, who might happen to have same drivers, and stuff. It might be normal to them, and they might not have to adjust the sens.
So to finalise, what might seems uber slow to you with Nauts config, on his PC those settings are fine for him, since it's fast for him
Get it?
Call me a N00b eh? i said, "IF" that post was "Also" pointed at me!
it was obviously my post that caused you to post your post in the 1st place! ~,..,~
But what your saying is true, but that also wasn't my Question, i wanted to know if it is because of the DPI? because i cant see that drivers of (who knows what) can make a game mouse sense move slower!
Another Question, Naut, was there any setting you changed in your User.ini files besides the netspeed that could make a improvement in your Speed/Game play that i will need?
or will it be teh same thing if i just copy my User.ini over and add the netspeed thing?

Manta, if I have my drivers for my mouse configured to 1 (out of 1) and my UT at 0.5, I will move at a certain speed. If I have my mouse drivers set to 0.5 (out of 1) and my UT set to 0.5, I will move alot slower.
So basically, if Nauts settings seem very slow to you, it could be 2 things :
1. Your settings in windows for you mouse or your drivers for your mouse are set lower than his.
2. The DPI of your mouse is different. If nauts settings are 0.58 on 400 DPI, then if you are on 800 DPI, and have exactly the same settings as him in windows and mouse drivers, then yours should be 0.29 on 800 DPI.
The problem is there are just too many factors in using someones ini. Different monitors, different settings on the monitor, different mouse pads, different mice etc etc. Other players inis can point you in the right direction and make you see new things or different ways to do things, but IMHO, it is hard to adapt to someone else's ini.
Thanks Leader! That sure Cleared up alot of Questions i also had ^^
