I'd like to know who here uses inverted mouse when playing FPS games, especially in UT. Are there any pro gamers you know who uses inverted mouse? I've got a theory about it and I'd just like to get some statistical data. Thx in advance :)

Cool, I'm specifically focusing on FPS games, flying games have their own style.

Yup, I'm one of them inverted freaks ...only explanation I can come up with, is that when I started playing games, I started with flight sims. But I'm curious as to your theory max...?

And I've tried, I've tried real hard to use it the normal way around (cause one game I played didn't have the option), but to no avail :(

Once upon a time, long long ago, someone advised me to try playing with an inverted mouse axis. Needless to say, after ten minutes I was hopping mad and have never tried it since :P

I use vanilla mouse, but DJ has used an inverted mouse since the days of Duke Nukem, and still does! No explanation why, he just does, and I don't know how!?!

What are you people talking about - the normal way around is inverted.

My brother is trying to get to the bottom of his lack in skill in all FPS games. He is using inverted mouse and I'm wondering if there is some correlation. Of course it's quite possibly other things, or a combination of things. But this inverted mouse (or lack of it) thing needs some research.

I do and just like CrazyBob I played flightsims before fps on my old Commodore 64. A friend I LAN with also plays inverted.

Used to play without invert, but changed for some reason. (Wasn't cos of flight sims) Its much better IMO, because its more realistic, you move your mouse forward, you lean downward, just like in real life. (Except in real life you tilt your head and not your mouse :P.)

I have tried ot once (only due to the strong persuasions of DJ) and I must admit that I don't find it at all intuitive. In fact, I don't know how anyone could possible find that it makes any sense whatsoever!

But I suppose, good luck to those of you that use it, so long as it works for you I guess. :)

Nah, I doubt it has much to do with it dude - I have no problems with my aim ...it just feels natural to me. It's similar to the debate of mouse sense, some pro's use high sense, some use low -- it's all about what works best for you.

If you're left-handed, and some pro that you admire is right-handed, you're not gonna change right. Same thing IMO.

Another invertee here.

As far as I can remember flightsims are to blame. I only started using mouselook sometime after Quake 2 came out and for some reason the flightsim way of drving felt the most natural. Maybe that's why I'm only good at Onslaught... :(

Well, tbh I am surprised at how many invertees there are! Seriously, I thought DJ was teh only one! :o

Haha Jaymac :) Today you'll get a "DJ Explanation" (and there are a couple of good reasons)

Firstly - I love inverted mouse is because I started playing Janes Anthology as one of my first flight sims back in the day. It gave the feeling of free movement straight to inverted mouse/joystick, and made such a lot of sence in movement feel.

but that's not my real reason. I find that I look down less than I look up in most FPS games. When pushing the mouse away from me to look up ... its more uncomfortable and because the mouse is so far from me I battle to aim and kill the opponent ..... so pulling the mouse towards me to look up is a lot more comfortable when looking up and still gives me enough room to play good. its keeping the gap of mouse play at the right distance - but so,e may argue that according to their mouse sensitivities?

Another reason why I prefer inverted mouse is somehow it does feel more realistic... pushing forward to look down and pulling back to look up - that's what your head does natrually. So it gives a realistic feel when using the mouse to look, but hey - then again - I am not a l33t player so maybe invert mouse isn't the best thing for everyone.

I suppose - inverted mouse - is an art that you either enjoy or can't stand... but Jay - I reckon if you played an hour or two inverted mouse straight - I'm almost willing to bet you will become an inverted mouse supporter :)

I am actually very surprised how many of 'us' there are. I thought is was more an anomoly than virtually 40% of the players.

Wonders never cease.

I am so lost, which is which........
I use it like it is in windows. so my mouse movemnt is directly translated ito cursor/xhair movement.
On high sensetivity.

i blame Nuke Dukem for forcing me to use inverted mouse. then again, never looked back since.Snap, me too.
But then again its a matter of preference and logic.
As GM<DJ>MF says and also logically you bend forward to look down a cliff. Shooting into the sky, or a bird, you step backward, you even lean backward to shoot up.
Illogical people are normally pen pushers, graphic designers or office workers who work with Word etc where if they push the mouse forward, the pointer goes up the page :)
I have found only in Quake or UT do I have to invert my mouse, most other games I just play normal.
Zyron, whats the difference whether you pull the joystick (or mouse) backwards to go up, or in FPS to shoot up - strange :)

So you're saying I'm illogically logical? :P

The thing is that Ive gotten used to play with a non-inverted mouse when it comes to FPS, and when I'm in a full blown flight game, I have to have it inverted otherwise people think I'm a terrorist because I'm flying into buildings :drunk:

To me its logical that when I'm in a plane, I move the mouse backwards to fly up and fowards to fly down. When I'm playing FPS, Move the mouse up to look up.
