I really wish there more onslaught maps to play on the servers!!!!!! We are not all deathmatch gods !!!!! I do like the tactical aspect of onslought and even capture the flag cause if yr not a god at least u can try and help yr team :)

I love both ONS and CTF. It's a real pitty there are so few of us, uhm, outcasts.

If ONS had an achievable result in 30 minutes or less, the servers would be flooded by ONS players, but it lacks that instant 30-minutes-to-kill aspect which, in my mind, makes it a flawed gametype. It is not nearly as encompassing as things like BF2, so you have this quirky gametype that just takes too long to finish.
Also, despite it being more "tactical" it only takes one idiot in a spamming tank to ruin it for an entire team or your own team to steal vechicles from under you and refuse lifts to spoil it.

I really hope the "warfaire" mode in UT2007 either brings the real tactical play like BF2, or sharpen things up and add some in-base melee with better results.

ONS certainly has it's flaws, but it's a good distraction from DM/TDM/Duels on Compressed, and not bad for something which is only a sub gametype. I've had some great fun playing ONS in the past.

Even if Warfaire is a lot better than ONS I forsee a quick death for that too, especially in S.A. I do hope I'm wrong though and it will be good and last for a long time, but all additional game types died, or never even picked up in S.A., including ASS, BOM, CTF, ONS, etc. Perhaps the only way it could work would be if it were a game on it's own with much more depth than what a gametype mod can bring.

Time will tell I guess.

I really think they are shooting for a BF2/Quakewars type gametype with the Warfaire mode and adding DM/CTF as the sub gametype this time around. Time will tell I guess, but ultimately it is player numbers that makes a gametype successful.

Isn't it 'Warfare'?

LOL just curious since both Maximus and Gamos both typed it like that...'Warfaire' sounds like an army circus :P :P

ONS maps are too large, and the game is too long for online play. It just doesn't hold enough peoples attention.

The thing which right irritates the tits off me, is when people vote ONS when they know 49% of the people will just leave right away, and the others will get bored after 15 minutes. So it lands up with 3 or 4 people wasting a whole server to play ONS for 2 hours, when it could be a good 6v6 TDM. Who on earth is that enjoyable for? When there are enough people you wind up with absolutely no vehicles on the stage (A critical flaw in the gametype imho), so you have to take a 5 minute long trek across the whole stage to find even a gun, by which stage some clever dick has run you over with a manta or whatever. It sucks.

It's always the same map voted too "ONS TORLAN" wow, how fun.

I have no problem if people enjoy ONS, but few people do and even less people know how to correctly operate the damn vote menu - sorry, but it's true.

If there was one thing I could wish for, not millions of rands in my bank account, not a beach house in cape town, not walking on the moon. I simply wish that people would LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS ON THE SERVER before voting.

ONS shouldn't even be on the main server IMHO. In fact, it should be a different game to UT entirely.

Dedicated ONS server IMO. Not mod server converted, not some wacky SGS server nobody has the IP for, just a normal dedicated ONS server. Maybe with the new UT.

Warfaire is actually the gaming tradeshow that was held annualy at the sundome. "Rage" is the new name for it. :)
So yes - WARFARE! :D

With that I agree with. And voting for ONS is fruitless.

It would probably do better that way, but don't forget that Onslaught was a major selling point for UT2004, otherwise it would've simply been a tweaked version of UT2003. The idea of adding vehicles to this kind of game was big at the time, and for a few months it did do pretty well.

It might have been a major selling point, but I don't think it was a major sticking point. There is no point (For us, there certainly is for Epix obviously) in 3000000 people buying the game, and only 10 playing it 2 months later.

Ons CAN be fun, if their are balanced teams and ppl that know what is going on. however, seeing some charlie jump in a tank in front of you, then start rotating in circles, whilst 2 enemy vehicles approach your node at full speed ruins the game for me.

I love / loved ons myself, but the public games offer no joy for me, so I would rather not play :(

For sure. However, Onslaught is not doing that bad overseas. At ut2004stats it's played second most, even more than TDM.

Matches Played:
Deathmatch: 2,873,890
Onslaught: 1,726,564
Team Deathmatch: 811,361
Capture the Flag: 616,655

As has been said above, there are just too many things that can spoil an Onslaught match. Every other gametype (including mods such as the horrible Team Anus Master) has a much higher chance of providing gratification to some random player. In Team Deathmatch, for example, about the only thing that can spoil a game is unbalanced teams.

Unfortunately it's highly unlikely that Epic will change Onslaught to offer a higher probability of fun. Almost everything that makes Onslaught work/unique is something that can potentially spoil a game for someone. Personally I'd hate to see them destroy the gametype in some attempt to "balance it out". The only way forward is to refine what's there and hope player numbers are high enough to sustain a long-term community.

Warfare could be big, but there's also a good chance that it will be too fast-paced to attract a massive following.

I'd like to add that unbalanced teams is a problem in most other online multiplayer games. I've basically stopped playing BF2 because the team balance is completely screwed 95% of the time. Most games only show their true potential when the teams are balanced well, inlcuding ONS. So it's not really the game's fault, apart from the fact that none of them can properly balance out teams.
