I still have to do benchmarks, so I need to get hold of 3DMark etc.

Nice! At least I know that everytime I kill you, you'll be dying in extreme high def anti-aliased smoothness.

That is, of course, assuming that I can play in the 1.7FPS that my current machine should be able to push out on ut2007.

Why did you go 7950GX2 instead of 8800? Everything rocks, but quad-SLI drivers blows and the 8800 actually offers DirectX10.

Cataphract
04 Jan 2007, 14:22
Nope, the Quad-SLI drivers are now sorted and I'm fine for quite some time until the game developers catch on to DX10.

The plan is to go to the Striker mobo and quad-core CPU in the middle of the year and SLI 8800GTX's (or the then equivalent) by the end of the year, plus Phys-X 2 (or the then equivalent).

04 Jan 2007, 14:24
That is a insane machine defiantly more then 15 G's on that, Yeah I agree with Gamos just needs those 2x 8800gtx's then it would have been great. but still 2 gb video ram is insane!!!

lol, i took to long but you have a sweet budget man.

Make no mistake, it is a esquisite rig, I just wondered why you chose that.

If not why not hehe

04 Jan 2007, 15:13
Bloody good machine there. I personally would perhaps just go for two 8800 GTX's in SLI straight away.

nice machine cataphract. Is it Vista ready? :)

BTW, selling your old machine? If i remember correctly it too kicked ass.

Cataphract i disagree with you on that (not trying to burst your bubble or anything) but all the latest benchmarks i've seen even with the 93.72(something like that) which are the latest i think for the normal cards dont work correctly with quad sli yet. The only game i've seen where quad sli actually out performs 1 7950 GX2 is in F.E.A.R. and in everything else it performs worse that a single 7950

Dont get me wrong i loved my 7950 when i had it but there were just so many issues in games for me i began hating it eg when a krappy 2.6 ghz AMD with 1 GB 266Mhz DDR in singel channel a plain old 6800 128 mb 128 bit, out performed my pc which was a Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3Ghz 2GB Kingston Hyper X 800 Mhz ram @ 4-4-4-12 with a 7950 GX2, the afore mentioned pc got 37 fps average and mine avcheived a whopping 8 fps average.

The 7950 is a cool card when the drivers and all are right for a game. I prefer my 8800GTX now :) less hassles

Sorry if that sounded like a rant :) I love your pc though :) i bet you feel like i felt when i got my new pc 3 months ago :) if i may ask how much did it cost? I love the case and the lighting :) and you virtually have double the HD space mine does :(

I wish mine had water cooling :D

He only did that because mine look me nice :P... and off course he had to go one better "sigh"

Awersome Rig Cata, I await the badaxe with and duo with great anticipation....

I have to strongly disagree with you. I will put my reasons up another time as I could not be botherered to argue why the 8800GTX is a good card however a HUGE waste of money. Stop looking at peak performance.

Advent, I'm not sure when you got rid of your 7950GX2, but the very first Quad-SLI driver was released on October 16, 2006:

"Adds support for NVIDIA Quad SLI, GeForce 7950 GT, GeForce 7600 GS AGP and GeForce 7100 GS. "

See here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.47.html

You won't find a Quad-SLI review that gives it an unconditional thumbs up before that date, and the one review in which they raise the issue you raised about performance in F.E.A.R., was done on 7 June 2006, a day after Nvidia prohibited the sending of more than one 7950GX2 to reviewers for exactly the reason that the drivers were still being written.

With the 2 November 2006 driver, I am getting absolutely mindbending framerates. For example in UT, with everything on Highest, with 4X AA and 8X AF, at a resolution of 1920X1200 I am averaging more than 500fps.

Cata the Reviews i looked at used the newest drivers for the card 91.47 and they never worked properly but if there are new drivers that work properly then i would love to see how it performs :) Only at extreme resolutions was it working better.

Is this waht you were talking about?

Have you heard that ATI are bringing out a dual core X1950 now which can also be crossfired, that is going to rock :)

Hehe, my grandpa always said, it is not if but when you fall with a bike. :D

Nice bike though. You get a lot more idiots on 4 wheels, so careful.

Santa brought me Dead Rising for X360, Pirates of the Carribian 2 DVD, a proper poker chip set, a WoW Burning Crusade I.O.U and bags and bags of sweets. :)

Maybe St. Valentine will bring me a DX10 card, depending on how well he works my budget. Haha.
