ok so my problem when playing movies my pc drastically slows down to a halt not even task manager works. The only thing that could be the problem is windows. i changed form a ati to a nvidia card. uninstalled drivers everything even tried different drivers but nothing works. is there maybe a fix beside a format and reload?

have you got one of those 1 million in 1 codec apps installed? Most of those are infected with some type of worm get yourself VLC and be happy :)

slayer, i had a kinda similar problem. It used to take me about 5 times as ling to unzip a file on my hdd (250 gig ATA). If I tried to play a movie off iut, it also took aes to start, and kept my processor going at 100%.
I thought my hdd was dying. However, i re-installed windows on my SATA, and the hdd was fine after that (the ATA). I did not touch the hdd, just did a reformat on the SATA drive.
So in short, sounds to me like a windows problem. How long since you re-formatted? And as a last resort, have you done a spyware and virus check recently (and if so, what programs you use?)

well i swaped GFX cards and still the same switched to onboard and its all fine. So all i can suspect is that there is a driver and hardware conflict between the onboard GFX and the AGP slot(even when the onboard is disabled). So i give up till i upgrade witch will be real soon(i hope :) )
