Hey guys,

I wonder if anyone can hlep me. I have just finished building a new system for my little bro' for Christmas. So... it's all up and running everythign seems to work schweet; but when I run Everest and check the CPU clock, I see that it reads at 1600MHz.

I am running a Core2 Duo E6400, so I should be reading 2133 surely?

When I run an app or super pi (or something heavy) then the clock goes up to 2133. Is this normal? Is there some kind of throttling on Core 2 chips? This is my first experience with Core 2.

Thanks in advance :)

core 2 has a power saving thingy built into it so that is normal. It only goes to full speed if it is needed, that is why core 2 is 40% lighter on power.

Hmmm... cool. :) Thanks slayer. :)

Jaymac i have a core 2 E6700 and my core speed is always at a steady 2.7 or if i overclock it it goes to 3 that throttling of your cpu is a setting in your BIOS if i remember correctly

Yeah... AdV3nt is correct... it's called Throttling... Intel used it in the beginning of P4 days when the intels became so hot they became unstable, so they throttle the CPU core speed so that the temp drops and rises according to CPU usage/load.

But now a days, heat on CPU's due to smaller chip size (90nm, etc, etc), aren't really that high anymore, and the Core 2's are very stable...

Try checking the BIOS for CPU throttling, and then disable it... ;)

Post some CPU-Z screenies when you get it sorted! ;)
