Hmmm, I guess this is a move to try and get gaming to a more standardised "sportlike" level, but I just don't see this working. Gamers will play what is good, not what is fed to them.

So, umm, pro gamers can't actually play regular games. They have to make special games for themselves.

Kind of like the Special Olympics ... ?

sorry for not knowing but who is John Romero?

Karnaugh
18 Dec 2006, 13:50
He's a "game developer". He claims to have written or worked on almost every game in existence, but really he has about zero claims to fame.

J1nX
18 Dec 2006, 14:06
Well he seems to be quite involved in this one eh.

Not the same guy?

John Romero: http://www.eidosinteractive.com/games/info.html?gmid=11

Same bloke?

'Designed by John Romero the legendary co-creator of the Doom series and Quake.'

'Designed by the legendary John Romero...'

Dunno why, but that seems to me to be a mighty big claim to fame, anyone else agree?

Gamos

He split away from the guys at ID Software and made possibly the worst FPS ever with Daikatana. Claiming to have helped on Doom and Quake in the 90's is hardly relevant on creating a game for 2007 I reckon.

He also started Ion Storm which turned out to be a mind blowingly expensive screw up. (http://www.amazon.com/Masters-Doom-Created-Transformed-Culture/dp/0812972155/sr=1-1/qid=1166457089/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-2894722-5416404?ie=UTF8&s=books)

Will this game be to fps's what trackamania is to racing games, in other words total kak.

18 Dec 2006, 18:27
Well, I suppose at least there seems to be an increase in the demand for competitive FPS games, which is a good thing IMO.

You don't like Trackmania LordScally? I thought it was an excellent arcade racer.

Booha
18 Dec 2006, 20:27
He's probably more into teh bumper cars and stuff, which is what is lacking in Trackmania. Youve just got to get used to the lack of crashing and nitrous and oomf... Then you'll come to appreciate it IMO.

LordScallyWag

trackamaina is absolute crap. its not a racer game in any fashion, at all. and afik it is like a standardised type of game. desgined purely for its eveness for compos.
this fps sounds like it could be similar to me. all watered down and even for a "purer gaming" style thing.

O and i like toca race driver3 and the gtr games :)

You forgot to mention that it took 5 years, or something, to get Daikatana out onto the shelves.

had to come back to this - can you say "painkiller"? that game sux but they played it because it was properly supported and enough money to tempt god

I guess it is about what (game) gets the most push from the developers / promoters / sponsors??

let me guess, he left ID software because in his fat head he thinks hes the best thing since sliced cheese, ID software probably gave him crap tasks to do probably cause he's not even a quarter as good as he thinks he is, he probably got fed up at ID cause they probably would not let him get more involved probably cause he was one of those hard headed dumb cunts who thinks he can do everything better and won't listen to any one... of course he proved it a little with Daikatana.. :censored:

the dumb ass probably only did textures or something stupid for doom or quake, but he uses it as ammo for everything.

this chop is the Chairman... i'm not interested...

watch the retard here http://www.thecpl.com/severity/romero.wmv

No really, you must watch this, you can see how big headed he is about this future failure he has planned..

hope it turns out to be a success. even tho we all have our doubts look what cs and dota did for gaming. maybe if they came out with a game everyone enjoys and is easy enough to pick up for ur average noob it could do wonders for the gaming 'lull' we seem to be in right now and can't get out of.

pro gaming is not growing, casual gaming is. thanks to WoW / dota. this could give the break we've been waiting for.

ROFL

What does Romero actually have to do with it? According to that vid Tom Mustain is the head of the project. And I love how he says "my old company, ID Software". Oh and at the end "hopefully I'll be there next time"

What a fraud.

I think their motives are wrong, they seem to be doing this to build some kind of indestructible monopoly (think how hard CS is to get rid of.) Games along this kind of thinking already exist, Warsow (http://www.warsow.net/) anybody?

If that knobhole in the video is anything to go by, severity is gonna suck severely.

If they get their way, we will have the "pros" playing a game that has no community once again. :/

Why did you delete my post ? Was imitating Romero quite well, even if I do say so myself ><

on topic:

In an interview at the CPL World Finals, Munoz said that they will not choose only their game. If what he said is to be believed, it is not aimed to create a monopoly.

Cripple-X
21 Dec 2006, 20:01
Hehe, Ag Elco I thought it was a great imitation. :p

"I am super looking forward to it and I just wanted to say ... (shows dorky thumbs up)"

LOL for a "Chairman of The Board" this guy has no language/speaking skill whatsoever. However this might still end up being a good game nontheless, who knows.
