Here's the review i promised. I finally got my new Camera this morning so i could take pics :)
Enjoy the review, let me know what you think :)
So I just got my hands on a Logitech MX Revolution. I've been wanting to buy one since their release, and I finally did it!
Okay, so here it is:

I'm really mouse obsessed, and this was a nice treat for myself. Before this MX Revolution, I used an MX1000. I used the MX1000 for about 2 years, and in my opinion, that's still the greatest mouse. The MX1000 really set the bar high, but knowing Logitech, their new Flagship mouse (MX Revolution) can't possibly be anything BUT fantastic.
So, upon opening the box I was so amped to feel this mouse in my hand. I put it on my desk and just FELT. Hehehe. I just payed attention to how it was feeling in my hand. Comfortable? Not Comfortable? That's what I was trying to figure out. After about a minute of switching between the MX Revolution and the MX1000, I realized that my hands are actually pretty big. The MX1000 really fills my hand, but the MX Revolution is slightly smaller and doesn't quite fill my hand, making it slightly less comfortable. But after a little while, I was used to it and now I’m used to its smaller size.
So, then I grabbed the little receiver:

It’s nice and small:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/IMG_0075.jpg
And I downloaded the newest SetPoint Logitech driver (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/downloads/software/US/EN,crid=1792,contentid=12468,osid=1) and installed it. Once the driver was installed and running, I could test everything.
I really like this receiver. On many wireless mice (trust me, I’ve had more than I can remember) the receiver is often an ugly contraption on the end of a USB cable. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this receiver is just a little dongle, like a flash drive.
First thing I tested was the new Mousewheel (the top one). It's truly an amazing invention this. You can have two modes: Regular mouse wheel mode, and the second mode is the cool one. It's like a free spin mode. So you can go through a few THOUSAND lines of code/text/whatever with a single spin of the wheel. To switch between free spin and normal mode, you just middle click. A really big bummer about that is that it disables “middle click”, which is a big deal for me, because I’m a Firefox User. The wheel also automatically switches between regular and free spin modes depending on how hard you spin the wheel - also another great feature. Setpoint also allows you to adjust scroll speeds and whatnot:

The wheel also has TiltWheel functionality for browsing pages or documents that are horizontally larger than average. The wheel is motorized. For an idea of what the insides look like, here you go:

I made a screen recording of the wheel in action, so you can see exactly how it works. Download this clip see it for yourself :D

So, this mouse has quite a few buttons, and I’m loving it. First one I’ll look at is also a new feature - The Search button. All you do to use this feature is highlight some text and then press the button, and your web browser will open up a window with results from your favourite search engine.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev002.jpg
Next we have these two buttons:
By default they are bound to “Back” and “Forward” controls in your web browser. You can, however, bind them to do other things, but your choices are fairly limited.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev003.jpg
Then, we get to another first, the wheel on the side of the mouse. This wheel isn’t like the wheel on top, in the sense that it can’t spin, it only rolls about half way in each direction . This wheel can only have TWO functionalities:
Task manager – somewhat like ALT-TAB, just more crap. I really hate it:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev013.jpg
And the ONLY other thing you can do with that wheel (with standard SetPoint drivers) is ZOOM. I mean what the hell?! Who wants to zoom?! So Logitech have been real dummies when it came to this.
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev004.jpg
HOWEVER, I found a way to really exploit this mouse’s buttons, but I’ll get to that later.
Setpoint also gives you an approximate battery life:

Battery life SEEMED to be pretty good, but after a while of using it, I saw that battery life was actually pretty disappointing. When I first got my MX1000, I only used to chatge the battery once a MONTH, which is fantastic. This mouse’s battery, however, seems to go flat in a few days, say 3 – 4 days. Which I find extremely disappointing.
So, that’s the MX Revolution. Without the “hack” I’m gonna go through now, this mouse would pretty much suck, but a guy on the Logitech forum by the name of “rlowens” has created a nice little app called uberOptions(link at the bottom of the review). This app is an absolute MUST for anyone that wants this mouse. It enables SO many new options for every single button on the mouse by adding features to Setpoint.
Standard Setpoint:

Setpoint with uberOptions Installed:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev008.jpg
As you can see, just in the main window there are more features. For example, here’s what you can do with the Forward/Back buttons:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev009.jpg
Now you can’t see all the options there, but there are more options than you could possibly want. Even completely silly things, like Shut Down, or junk like that. I also managed to bind "Middle Click" to another button now, so i have Middle click again!
Then, something that made me extremely happy, was the option to bind to the side wheel as well. The wheel has three movements – Forward, Back, Middle Click.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c267/DAE_JA_VOO/more/MXRev012.jpg
On the Sidewheel, I have my Forward, Back, Middle Click bound to Cruise Up, Cruise Down, Middle Click respectively. I’m still playing around though, I might find other bindings I prefer.

Gaming:
This is BY NO MEANS a gaming mouse. I’ve never had a PROPER gaming mouse, been using my MX1000 for the last 2 years and it works perfectly for gaming for me, but I struggled to get used to playing on the MX Revolution. Now I’m used to it and I’m playing the same as I was on the MX1000 (which is understandable considering the MX1000 and the MX Revolution have the same laser engine).
So yeah, that’s my thoughts so far on the MX Revolution.
Pros:
-> Oh MAN this mouse looks good!!
-> Lots of new technology, like the side wheel and free spin Mousewheel Features
-> Wireless (It’s a pro for ME, ok?! :P )
-> Receiver is very very small
Cons:
-> Standard Setpoint features are somewhat limited
-> Wireless (it’s a con for those who hate wireless)
-> Slightly too small for me, hence not as comfortable as my previous mouse
->Battery Life
-> Goodness, it’s expensive…
So yeah, that’s my thoughts so far on the MX Revolution. Let me know what you think :D
