View Full Version : Performance decrease
Hey guys, I've reformatted now and my pc runs smooth, for a day or so, I install my programs, their all smooth, the pc runs fine, then sometime or another my music for instance would freeze up whenever I even open My computer and then all of the sudden it boots up WAY slower, like slower than my 1.1ghz, if I reformat, it's fine again, any idea as to what it is?
First try fiddling with ur ram. If you have 2 dimms try using one for a while and then the other to see which one is a traitor.
You arent crunching SETI figures so there should be no need for ur pc to lock up and stuff. A hardware component is giving you training.

Dude,
Have a look at your starup setting and see what your computer is loading. It could be something like that but really i would not have a clue ....speak to Naut he will give u a few options

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the feedback, I have noticed nothing that loads in the background, and I have seen that if I install Call of Duty 2, it all goes to hell.. Windows boots up for 35 seconds then, apposed to the 8 it usually does.
I am running 2 different makes of ram in dual channel, if I try running them in single channel, the motherboard only pics up 512, I'm thinking it could very well be that, I will check it out, thanks Peon and Nevets, this is not cool for me :P.
People, this is starting to piss me off, I didn't install Call of duty this time, I ran it from my pc, then it all went so fucked up slow, and when I install other programs like riva tuner, it does the same..I tried both of my ramsticks individualy, but no difference...Might the fact that im running a 350W psu make a difference?

Try installing using a different version of the OS that you've been using traditionally. Maybe you've got a wobbly version.
It's got to be either that or hardware imo.

Agreed. I had a friend who had a crap copy of XP, something was corrupt in the direct X drivers.
I put my version on and his pc ran 100% from that day onward
thanks guys, umm I reformatted again, I am running one of the very first copies of XP Pro, the ones without SP1 or 2 etc.. so if I have this problem again, I will try some other dude's XP and see what it does.

well since i installed sp2 my system also went to in sy moer in slow...then reinstalled and put sp2 on without the autoupdating and it is still running nicely. did you maybe auto update your system?
yeah I did and I took that into consideration, I'm now testing it by updating it, but not installing Call of Duty2.
I am thinking that my Call of duty installs some Dx or something that the system does not like very much
