View Full Version : Ein new mouse

Hi.
I'm trying new tricks with my mouse and it's not quite responding like I thought it would. Basically, I've lowered my mouse sensitivity in an attempt to gain some accuracy and its been fairly ok so far, just one problem. When I try and do a quick wrist flick to spin 180, the mouse responds erratically, panning up and down if not done in a specific way ie lightening the load placed on the mouse which is quite a hassle. When I tried this on Acid Burn's machine, his mouse did it effortlessly. I tried it with newer (and cheaper) mice, and it was fine.
Bringing me to my point. Assuming I need a new mouse ( my current one's about 2-3 years old ), any recommendations? Im not willing to spend more than R200.
Ta.
What mouse do you have?
No clue what the current pricing is, but try and grab a Mx518 or Diamondback.

Nautilian swears by a stock standard two-button Microsoft Optical Mouse.
They're not cheap, however...

Its an A4 Tech SWOP-3. The red light looked cool :D but its just not cutting it atm. Those Diamondbacks and MX- etc aren't those R499 + mice, are they?
Dude, if you play UT your mouse is just as important as the rest of your hardware. Don't skimp on a mouse. A4 tech is average at best. Look for Logitech or Razer, even if you get a older Mx310 or something.

the a4tech i had, did exactly the same. imo it's a sh1t mouse.
my mx510 brings me much joy.

It does, Bio, thanks. I was looking at the MX 310, but also the Razer Diamondback and the Razer just looks so cool.....hey, wait, this sounds like the last time I bought a mouse :D
But seriously, the Diamondback looks like a quality mouse. A bit pricier than the 310, but looks the business. Anyone have it?

Who is this ... "The Greek" ... anyway?
You mean you couldn't follow the smell to the servers? Naut of course :p
Edit: Just for reference, the Razer Diamondback competes against the MX518 and the Copperhead against the G5.

I used to have a Razer Diamondback. (I still have but I don't use it anymore.)
It is a really, really fantastic mouse. I just could not play onslaught with it as well as I can with MX518. The Diamondback is supposed to be a seven button mouse but the side buttons are unusable.
The MX518 is a true 8 button mouse, all of which I use for onslaught. :D

So would you say the MX518 is worth the difference of R535 - R345 = R190? (Which is more than I paid for my current mouse :P)
And the MX310? Ol' reliable?

I bought it but in the meantime have got a G5 for myself, due to the fact that I find the Razor just too twitchy for my use..... The Razor is two months old let me know u tell me what u wanna pay for it.!!
Thanks Crazy
If u interested I also have a G5 with ur name on it R649.00

My partner at the LAN, German_Weasel, has a wireless mouse. He's not sure what make it is, but he got it at about R100 - R150 so he thought "bargain". The problem he's having (and I've tried his mouse too and its BAD) is that its way, way too sensitive. I swear his in-game sensitivity was 1.25 and it felt like 3.25 to me. God forbid you try and do something in Photoshop.
The sense I'm getting from the Diamondback after reading up a bit, is that its extremely sensitive (I could be wrong), which is why I'm leaning towards the MX310 again. Wouldn't happen to have any of those lying around, wouldja?

Personally speaking nothing beats a R69 Microsoft wheel mouse optical with a Everglide Titan!
Naut
lol Also make sure mouse smoothing and all those crap windows and ingame are switched off. Set your hardware acceleration in windows to full and just play with your mouse sens in game untill your 180 flick is spot on. Also playing around with your Y and X axis in the INI can make a difference.
=_sNaKe_=
04 Jul 2006, 13:22
Thing is, Naut, I tried the wrist flick thing (which is the main problem) with a bog standard mouse and it worked, my only concern is how long another cheapie is going to last.
Hardware acceleration to full?
=_sNaKe_=
04 Jul 2006, 13:51
I took mouse smoothing, reduce mouse lag etc all off but I'm at work and the cheapie mouse here does it fine, though it IS a little heavy to the hand. Will test this out at home, <blonde>but is H/W acc in Windows somewhere or is it ingame?</blonde>
Snake, I really recommend you grab that Diamondback from Naut. You are taking a knife to a gunfight with that mouse.

Hehe, good one. Had quite a laugh from that, mainly because the more I think about it, the more it seems plausible. Maybe I will take that Diamondback after all...

Yeah they are. Can pick them up some places for about R200 or less. Not sure where these days, I've had mine for like half a decade.
Hardware acceleration to full?
... lol nope, mouse accelertion or mouse speed to high is what I ment. I see my PC dont have that option anymore and im using setpoint these days so dont know what happened to it.

yo snake,
I got the diamondback, upgraded from my mx500 to it. It competes with the mx518 (virtually same insides) just the outsides differ (shape, buttons etc).
Dunno if you said anywhere, but if you are a leftie, a Logitech won;t work for you, the only mouse to go for then would be the mx300 or a razer (they are symetrical).
I havebeen very happy with my diamondback. beware, it takes a while to get used to, but once you are, you cannot imagine how you played without a quality mouse ( be it a mx or razer range).
Gl though, I would siggest you tae crazychic up on her offer and grab it before some1 else does :)

Just btw, for the lefties out there... Logitech is releasing the new G3. Basically the same to the 310 as what the G5 is to the 510. Looks really nice and has the same mouse engine (2000 dpi laser) as the G5 and G7.
Thought maybe some of our lefties would find it interesting.

I've had a gander at the Logitech and Razers side-by-side and I think I'm going with the Razer, since I'm used to a symmetrical mouse already (only ever had those) and that seems like the logical choice.
Thanks, y'all :P
