Hey guys... I'm in the middle of a research paper and I was just wondering...
Does anyone know roughly how much bandwidth does VoIP consumes on a per minute basis?
Thanks.
it depends largely on how many uncomfortable silences you have during the converstaion

Hmm.... good point. And what if you're chatting to your girlfriend who you haven't seen for two weeks and you just talk constantly?
last time i checked, but i was in a conference call with skype it used 7kb/s, but thats like a couple months ago, dunno if the newer versions use less bandwidth.
Most apps you can set the bandwith usage which will afect the quality

Wow... 7kbps, that's nothing really! I thought it would be a lot more like streaming content.
Hmmm.... I'm impressed.
No, if only I could cancel my voice line rental and keep only my ADSL line!

Thats what I do and I guess the majority of people will do in the next couple of years, replace your phone by Skype (or a proper voip setup) and keep a cellphone just in case you need to dial numbers that won't work, like emergency numbers.
The skype-out rates to non-voip users are cheaper than normal phone rates anyway.
Programs like teamspeak use alot less bandwidth thou afaik, but you need a server, but I guess you could get that hosted overseas for close to nothing
