Hi Guys,
I have been monitoring the servers for a couple of weeks now and found a couple of players who have been around for a bit but (PLEASE correct me if i am wrong) have not been welcomed into a clan.
Dr Zoidberg - pretty good
Bean - not bad at all
CrazyChic - new, great potential!
Wee-Man - not bad
Noob_Saibot - not sure?
Unless some of these are wll known players smurfing or whether they have been offered but have not accepted, can we not a find a home for these players?
Just asking,
PH

I can't speak for our esteemed captain, but I am sure GM/MF would be willing to welcome some of these great players into our ranks.
I thought Noob_Saibot was smurfing.
Don't assume everyone wants to join a clan.

I agree, it's mostly overrated.

Appologies to those who do not wish to join a clan, those who do, continue reading this thread.

bean rocks, but does not want to join a clan, last time i asked :(
Yeah - I'm a clanless, clueless mercenary.
Some days I'm in the zone, and other days I can barely shoot my own feet :)
I'm pretty happy in no clan. Thanks for the offers though!
Clans:
There is the normal etiquette of being invited to join a clan or asking a clan for acceptance.
A trial should then take place - if you prove yourself worthy and the clan accepts you - you will be able to use the clan name with ure nick.
Joining a clan should be taken as a sign of respect for the UT skills (and maybe some other skills / resources) you have on offer that will benefit the clan.
TA have minimum entry requirements as I am sure the other clans have.
Should you find yourself fortunate enough to be invited to join a clan - consider it a highlight of your UT career.
It is not a clans duty to invite UT players to join. We will select you on your merit.

Yes, of course, ours is that you would think about joining TA ;-)

Sure is a lot of assumptions you make.
1. The Avatars will never reject someone based on skill. We are a family after all. Hell when I applied to the Avatars I was a UT99 noob on 56k modem. Yet they welcomed me with open arms and I grew with them since then. As a result I’ll never leave the Avatars. Do you get the same loyalty and camaraderie by judging people just by the skill they already have? Do you care?
2. We frown on this practice of enticing someone to join a clan just to gain his skill, especially players from other clans.

I agree on your first point. However, just note Mudda never mentioned skill being the criteria they recruit on. He just said they HAVE criteria.
The second point, I am a bit confused. Naja have taken on alot of newish players, and we take great pride in training them up, so they can become good. Talk to most players who end at the bottom of every game, they will tell you that they don't really have that much fun. Its always more fun doing relatively well, and to see you skill grow. And what better way than to join a clan, play clannies, and at the same time learn and improve your game. Perhaps I am missing something in your statement, in which case, I apologise ahead of time :)

I have no idea how GM/MF does it.
We just kind of arbitrarily get and lose members...
One thing I do know is that a member of the clan is not just someone you play online with, we were all friends long before UT came along, and we will all be friends when UT is long dead and gone (heaven fordbid.)

Although, thinking about it, if someone wants to get more serious and maybe go pro one day, they should probably think about joining a more serious, or skills-based can.
One of the reasons clans exist is for players of different philosophies to get together and enjoy a common aspect... be it pro-gaming or drinking beer. Personally, I prefer the latter.

LOL, my skill level must be below from when we first started TA. I get raped silly on the servers lately. I don't think TA has ever shown someone away before based on his skill, as long as he is willing to partake in some "initiation" then it's all fine :) Also, I don't think that our plan is to forever grow in size, so people might only be shown away when there already is enough players.
I think that mostly, a bit of dedication is appreciated more than skill is. A dedicated person is more usefull than an ultra 1337 player who never partakes in clan matches.

I would like to note a couple of things:
1) TA never recruited me, i approcahed TA, i was playing late one night and lost by one frag to Kwan-Kung, after that match i mentioned how cool it must be to play for them after seeing how good Mudd@ was at ESWC, he invited me to try out, i got so badly hammered it wasn't even a joke, i still do*sites Mudd@'s 42-2 victory 2 nights ago on ironic*
2) They certainly dont take on highly skilled players only, ffs they took me
3) TA is not about winning or losing, it's about how you play the game, i have nothing bad to say about this clan, in fact all i have to say, is should i leave them one day, it will be because i no longer play UT

hehe ok MaXimus, good to hear. maybe I took mudd@'s post a bit literally, but it sure sounded like he was prescribing how all clans should be run.
Haja: "Naja have taken on alot of newish players, and we take great pride in training them up, so they can become good.". The practice I'm talking about is another clan now stealing away that player you spent all the time training up. darn leeches :P

Thanks Max :)
Clans are what you make of them. Personally, if it were not for naja, I would probably not play UT anymore. The friendships I made over the years are very dear to me, and it what makes this game what it is to me.
Hey Guys,
I've been a little out of loop - work has overwhelmed my poor little ass (hence why GM<>MF hasn't been much online>
Though Terror was in MF (and has officially resigned) - MF have since enlightened the thought of expanding from its core members. So if anyone above wishes to join MF - they need just to PM me - and we'll post our trials for them to enter. I agree with Mudd@.
If memory serves, only one person that has asked to join Team 42 has ever been accepted.
And as far as invitations, we've only ever issued four invitations in our three and a half years of existence, those being to Gandulf, FANA, Scrye, and pb.
The only person to ever decline a 42 invitation has been Scrye. Roughly a year later, he then asked if he could join, and was accepted.
Essentially, we thrive on friendship. If we haven't met a person, they've never been accepted in. And if a person is likely to cause friction of any nature in the clan, their chances are virtually zero. However, if we meet a person, and their alcohol tolerance is good, it usually counts in their favour. :D
and their alcohol tolerance is good
I'll never forget forgetting my initiation :(

Hey guys
only had a chance to look at the forums now and see my name being mentioned YAY
We have so many good clans out there!
if any one could tolerate my crappy schedule (matric and work mostly)
i would enjoy joining a clan
i no i aint the greatest around but it would be cool :D
my 3$ and 50c
Just sumthing on my mind, i Agree with you all that Joining a Clan is not totaly about Skill, but for me it sure counted alot before i joined Naja, i meen, i wanted to Join a V-Good Clan.
Naja was the Target, so i practised like Mad just to get close to their level. And, i never asked them, my reputation wasnt that gr8 i think. but yet they accepted me. after i proven i might be a asset to the Clan. ( might i add WT might also have helped me :P )
I Think that Sertain Clans make their Name by how good they play. and ofcourse by their members Attitudes! I Just Think The Skill FACTOR sould be mainly considered in a Clan.
IMHO. ( mmn, might be Y KA*CLAN only had me :/ 4give me GenV! )
might i add WT might also have helped me :pWT was dead against u coming in:P
WhAt?! O maN, nOw He iS GoNnA GeT It!

I did a quick check on the meaning of clans....
clan.
A traditional social unit in the Scottish Highlands, consisting of a number of families claiming a common ancestor and following the same hereditary chieftain.
A division of a tribe tracing descent from a common ancestor.
A large group of relatives, friends, or associates. So option 1 & 2 is not why I'm in Helix but most certainly option 3 and only because I've met and made friends with some really awesome people. I have to say however people belong to a relegion, clan or group for two reasons.
1. Common goals and sense of belonging.
2. All groups of people banded togeter think that other groups are well, slightly crazy....
And the only reason why some people are not in clans is the fact that they are socially disfunctional....... or the fact that they don't think anybody is crazier or whackier than they are....
Damnit, its on account of point one that I have an excuse to get pissed on Whisky every so often so definatly point 1 and 3:P

Point 1 also makes sense to me. Most people at the previous Kempton LAN looked inbred.
