If you want to feel better, look me up for a duel. If you can't beat me then you don't deserve to play UT (or you are really, really noob). ;)

On a more serious note, I know how you feel (or at least I think I do). I've gone through one or two such periods during my Onslaught stint, and getting out of the rut sure isn't easy. Of course it's also not impossible. Like Gamos suggested, just give it a little time. All it takes is one good match for the old excitement* to be there again.

Don't give up too easily. :)

*Please note that only Onslaught can actually elicit sexual excitement. I blame the ridiculously hot babes that it attracts, but individual mileage may vary.

Purple, I have to agree with everyone here. First thing is to realize that you'll never be the best in UT. Please don't take this the wrong way since I'm actually refering here to everyone who playes UT. There will always be someone who's better than you, it doesn't matter who you are.

Maybe that is not your goal in the first place, but it just takes time to get really good in this game (and most others). Everyone here went through the same thing at some point, maybe not in UT, but certainly in some other online game. I never take UT serious anymore since I am too much of a jack of all trades when it comes to gaming. I can't focus on only one type of game so I play UT, BF2, rFactor, Nascar, IL2 Sturmovick, which all takes a lot of practise to get good at. Therefore I can never be even half a good UT player. But since I've started viewing UT in that way, I tend to take it easy online and most of the time I play better just because of that. I get bored of the same maps and then I leave UT for a while. Then at some point I miss the game again and I get back into it. I've wanted to leave UT permanently many times before since I wanted to be really good (at least as good as the top guy), but just got stuck at a certain level and everyone else around me seemed to improve at twice the rate I did. If you play with those thoughts in your mind, it just wont be fun anymore. Stop trying to be competitive (I know its hard, but the satisfaction of taking out a very competitive player while you are in it just for the fun is really good!), play some other games for a while, get back to UT when you feel like it and you will probably improve automatically. You probably know all this, but sometimes you need someone else to point it out to you again.

One last thing I'd like to mention: if you feel this way in UT, and try to get into some other game, the same thing will most probably happen. There are also good players in those games and they also tend to rape you stukkend. It's more of a mindset change than a change of game. To be honest, I take it much better when I get raped by Naut and them in UT than when the Assault guys in BF2 constantly spawn rapes you with bombs and there is nothing you can do about it. So, I say again, take a bit of a break from UT, try something else, even some single player games and then when you feel like getting in a few frags, go for it.

Purple, just relax, and enjoy the game. I came to a realisation LONG ago that I would never be able to compete with the top dogs. Hety, without sucky players, there wouldn't be top players, right? :P

So just relax, find a gametype you enjoy, and play it to the best of your ability. As long as I know I am playing well FOR ME, then I am happy. And if i win a few matches, or frag a few "pro's" in the interim, all the better.

So chill, take a week off, and come back and have fun. The less you TRY and win and watch your score, the better u do :)

Oh I do know how you feel Purple. Ask Gamos, he's nursed me through several of these UT-suicide troughs. Uninstall it and come back in a month. Did wonders for me. I still suck but I can have fun at the same time now.

Yeah man! Those were great games!

Your armour control, weapon pickups and even health management is all good, but you predictability mess them all up somewhat. Just work on that, and you'll be a-ok again. :)
