It's really starting to piss me off.
Not because of the obvious, but because there is no general consensus. I don't mind it at all; I feel its part of the game.
Sometimes its unavoidable, you kill a guy by reflex or spam, and fine. But when some noob hunts you down, chasing after you ignoring everyone else because he knows it’s an easy kill then it gets annoying, I can see both sides of the argument.
There are those who do it (constantly) and those who don't, so I feel bad after spawn raping a person I know never does it to me.
But I'm sick of taking the crucial seconds look at a persons name first, and try and remember their spawn raping history...
Whatever the results of this poll are, even if there are only 3 votes, then that’s how I'm playing from now on regardless.

Here is the list of people I *will* (try to) spawnrape.
{TA}.* - All of you bastards do it

Biogizard and gizzlo - because you're easy game and you're just going to go rape 200 other people with your flack spam
Any 42 member - because its fun, best to do it with a shield cannon.

Anyone else is fair game, if you shoot a grenade and it doesn't work out then you're toast. Otherwise it depends how you're playing and if i feel like you deserve it.

Something I loath and detest, is, you're running along, and some poor sod spwans in front of you, you see him, he sees you, you do the sporting thing and run off to give the poor bugger a chance. Even if the turd shoots me a bit with his Assult rifle, like the sucker I am, I keep running and leave him to his business.
Anyway, regardless of his Assault rifle antics, you run off thinking what a good person you are and how much positive Karma you just gained, and next thing you get a load of Flak in the back for your troubles.
Really nice guys.
Perhaps more moronic than those fools would be me, for continuing to give them the oppertunity to run away to safty rather than be raped by any of the 10 weapons I may be carrying capable of wiping his defenceles backside out in a single shot.
There is a difference though, i mean if you're activly camping a hot spawn area (like the Flack in Campgrounds) then you need some very serious attitude adjustment. If you're moving around the map and actualy playing properly and come across someone who decides to try and mow you down with an assault rifel, shoot his head off.
I say give someone one chance. If they be a prat then its just another kill for next time. Take great pride in those multi-kills from the same person.

I tend not to spawn rape if I can avoid it, but sometimes it is necessary.
The other day I killed Bio three times in a row because he spawned right in front of me, grenades spewing just about every direction I tried to run around him.
Generally though, I'll give the guy a chance to get away... especially if it's some poor noob who could do with a little encouragement.

Shrimp I feel for you man. I used to do that as well. Sometimes I would stand with flak in hand, point blank and the fucker would still spam nades and end up killing me. I could have taken him out in one shot...
Now I just don`t do that anymore. If the dude spawns in front of me, easy kill, it as simple as that.

On a map with say 6 on a side - u r almost guaranteed of being spwnd during the game.

actually u have two weapons when u spwn.
I guess that's also a bit of an issue adding to the retardation of the matter.
Everyone vote for bloody 1on1 maps, regardless of wether there are 2 or 20 people on the server. Maybe if everyone would stop voting for 1on1 maps when the server is near capacity, they wouldn't be raped so much.
But I guess there's no chance of anyone using some common sence when voting time comes.
If
a) someone puts up a shield and backs away and
b) if that someone isn't a super-leet oke, I'll back off
In other words, if someone spawns and starts shooting at me with the pea-shooter, he's fair game no matter how noob.

If some leet dude like Mudd@ spawns, he's fair game, no matter how nicely he begs with shield in hand. Chances are he'll kill me anyway, even if I'm holding the redeemer with 150 shield and he only has an umbrella.
(LMAO - the other night Xan spawned and killed me with the shield, even though I was shooting rockets like crazy. Biogizzard's done the same with grenades vs my rockets. Good times :) )
But the short answer: spawnraping is part of the game. I mean, mostly you just don't have time to ponder these philosophical questions. You see, you shoot. Simple.

I would also like to add, that if you start to talk in the middle of a DM / TDM, leaving your player stationery in full view, i WILL shoot you. UT is a FPS, not a local chatroom.

I totally agree spawn rapeing is part of the game, but in the same breath if a person spawns in front of me I try not to shoot them and give them a chance I feel it is more sportsman like this way. What realy gets my goat is if the fucker starts shooting at me with a assult rifle dude if you dont want to get shot then put up a shield and back off unless your a leet player then it all be fair game.

What really pisses me off, is the people who "half spawn rape"
They see a guy spawn (me for instance) I pull out my shield because I see flak spam everywhere, you try and get away but someone spots you.

so I dont even fight back I just try to get away to find a weapon, but by this time I have 30 hp, and my attacker has realised I just spawed recently so they leave me alone...
Now I have 30 hp, no gun and I have to fend for my newly spawned life, someone lobs a flak secondary 2 metres away from me and Im dead.
If you are going to spawn rape, then at least do it properly.

Regarding spawn raping, I have a question:
I believe on the server there's an option for a certain time span during which a player is protected right after spawning - I think the default is 2 seconds. Is a player actually invulnerable during this 2 second period, or can he still die with a close-range flak cannon shot for example? Would it be possible to increase this time span to 5 seconds for example, to avoid the whole spawn-raping issue?

not a BAD question...
yes, you are invincible for 2 seconds, that is why u normally get hit backwards when hit with a rocket or asmd, but do not suffer any damage.
Increasing the spawn time protection is not the worst idea, but that will just lay open a new kind of irritation. Ppl spawning ad running at you with the shield gun or assualt rifle, being able to damage you, but you not being able to hurt them.
2 seconds is long enuf IMHO to put up shield and run like hell.
Like shrimp says, vote biger maps, idoma is not meant for a 10 on 10 TDM

I don’t like spawn raping or being spawn raped, but I do agree with you even though deliberate raping is unsporting in my book, it is part of the game and it does happen on the odd occasion. I don’t really have an issue if I spawn and some dude comes around a corner fighting and I end up painted on the wall (but it gets to me when it’s the same guy time after time). Camping spawn points... Lame; running around raping as people spawn… lame.
Yes, I know I spawn with a gun, I know how to use it, when I decide to use it and end up dead, so what, I lost …
i think 4-5 sec protection would help to give you a chance to get away or plan a reaction of some sort...it won't bring in some new lame crap cause if you shoot within that time your death is apon you like crap on a blanket

My view on this since I am not getting away from the nOObness (Not practicing enough). We have two weapons to fight or defend when you spawn. 1) Assault Rifle, 2) ShieldGun. Great weapons. I say one must learn how to use them properly. When in a tight spot I had many kills using either the granade or the Shield hammer. Most of the times though it doesn't help, pitty about those, but what an <A>wseome feeling hitting a leet player with a hammer or grenade.
I tend not to spawnrape, sometimes I kill someone who is running around without a weapon purely on reflex and then I become this huge target, but it is all good. It's all part of the game. We should not get so personal about this great game. After all it's just a game...
So, if you feel I spawn raped you, I'm sorry. Most of the times it is purely reflex buddy.
Guys, just set your weapon priority to make the shield higher than the assault. That way you actually spawn with the shield, have no accidental click that fires a few bullets, no urge to lob grenades, and most players will leave you when you present no threat right from the time you spawn.
Deliberate raping is a no no in my eyes, but there is no getting away from the occasional spawn rape.
If someone doesn't actually see you spawn with that shield in your hand, they would (I certainly would) assume you're retreating from a recent battle and are low on health. Easy kill is assumed :)
If someone doesn't actually see you spawn, it is not spawn raping surely?

the 5 sec don't give him a real atvantage...it just helps him get away or defend better when he does spawn with some lamo camping a weapon or spawn point

Just to comment on "leaving" the newly spawned players. I have tried so many times to not go after players, but the simple fact is that they complain when you rape them and when you leave them alone they STILL come after you and will empty every bullet, grenade in that assualt rifle and come after you with the shieldgun.

If there are not a lot of players on the server and some noob is getting hammered I would probably leave him alone. Except for a few people I know hate being spawn raped and would themselves never spawn rape, I do rape. To many times I left a player only to be killed by numb nuts a couple of secs later.

If you spawn and there's a guy with a big fucken hand cannon "guarding" the rocket launcher don't be a fucken noob and run towards it, discretion is the better part of valor.
There is nothing as satisfying as fragging someone equipped with a flack cannon or rocket launcher with nothing but assault, 1 grenade and a couple of shots is all it takes. I spawn with left button dipressed! :D

Yeah - I've tried the "I only have an assult rifle" fakeout a few times - sometimes it works and sometimes it just backfires on me :D
I tried playing a whole map the other night with just the assult rifle - got a few kills - but on the team level it seemed to work really well. It's like being a mozzie and annoying the crap out of people - they head for you and ignore everything else, and then get taken out by someone from your team! You do tend to die an awful lot though (just like real mozzies I guess.)
I've also managed to reverse-spawn-rape a few people as well. You spawn, they start loading the rockets and you leap into their face with a full shield as they unleash the rockets. They die and you end up with 10 or so health but it feels great!
I generally try leave the newly spawned alone so they can get their bearings, but the laws of the universe (i.e. the UT game engine) allow it so you have to always be ready for it :)

Spawnraping rocks, especially when people take it personal. When they get emotional they play worse, so I'd definately count spawnkilling in as a skillfactor, wether it's you killing or being killed - not getting pissed off when being spawnkilled is one half of the skill factor, surviving a spawnkill attempt the other.
I don't understand the big deal, if you get killed it takes you less than a second to respawn (unlike cs for example) ... taking that into account it's not the time factor of respawning that pisses you off, it's the score - and you really shouldnt care about that, seriously.

Spawn raping... take it from the master of death... I died 47 times the other day. Gotta be a record, so when it comes to spawn raping a get alot of oppurtunity to get raped (hehehe). An trust me everybody does it. Very few pass the buck. :bounce:
But thats the game. I hate it but it happens. international forums even teach how to spawn rape predicting where to find the guy. hehehe.

No. I do not agree with spawnrapeing and try my very best to not spawnrape. There is no skill involved in spawnrapeing. There is great skill involved in avoiding being spawnraped.
As much as I do not agree with it, there is nothing I can do about it and therefore I have to live with it. At the very least I know my score is based mostly on skill.
BTW if you spawn and start firing your pee shooter, and you are killed. That is not spawnrapeing.
I dont mind spawnraping, the first gun i take out when i spawn is shield gun, its there to shield you when you cant attack...... if im not able to, i die, spawn somewhere else, and start again, thats the way it goes. i always TRY and leave ppl alone, but if they start shooting me with the assault rifle, its usually no mercy, i despise that crap, especially if the actually kill me. But if someone is backing off with shield gun, i leave them alone.
