Hi guys, I'm looking for someone to join me as a team mate and to share the organized online motor racing experience with me. Here are some of the details:

Q: Which racing game will be used?
A: Currently I'm focused on rFactor and it's F3 open wheel racing mod. This is also the game and mod used by SARL on Monday night races this season. Read more about rFactor here: http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=features

Q: rFactor, where do I get it and how much does it cost?
A: rFactor can only be purchased online for $39.99 (+/- R250), the installation is then downloaded from the internet. Read more here: http://www.rfactor.net/index.php?page=buyonline

Q: What is SARL?
A: SARL (www.sarl.co.za (http://www.sarl.co.za)) is an organized online racing community. In order to race you have to register with SARL first. SARL currently has three leagues: Nascar Lite Series, Nascar Hard Core Series and rFactor F3 Series. You can particapate in Lite Series and F3 Series, the Hardcode series is only open to the top three winners in the Lite series. Scores for each race is kept.

Q: What kind of cars is used in the F3 mod?
A: The F3 cars are similar to F1 cars but smaller and less powerfull.

Q: Will we be racing with rFactor only, what about Nascar?
A: Due to the competitiveness and the difficulty level of the games it's better to stick with one kind of racing type, that is until perhaps we have mastered rFactor up to a certain level.

Q: Are these games simulations or more like arcade games?
A: Both rFactor and Nascar 2003 Season are simulations and require the configuration and fine tuning of car setups. They are difficult to drive and require lots of practise to get it right. There are up to 32 other drivers on the track which are all just as well practised and wanting to win as much as you do. Expect everything that happens in real races: crashes, yellow flags, penalties, pit stops, qualifying rounds, etc. etc.

Q: What will be required of me?
A: 1) A stable ADSL connection
2) rFactor
3) A good force feedback racing wheel, I strongly recommend Logitech's Momo racing wheel.
3) Some previous racing simulation experience will be a big plus.
4) There is one F3 race every Monday night (20:30) but every fourth week is skipped to give the guys a break.
5) Qualifying usually takes around 30 minutes and the race takes an hour, thus you need to have this time booked for yourself.
5) You will be required to study the science behind setting up cars. This is 50% of the racing experience.
6) Some practise time is required before a race. Since the race is on Monday nights this leaves good opportunity to practise over the weekend.

Q: How much fun is this, it seems very serious?
A: It is lots of fun, the adrenaline rush you get in these games are not easily matched by any other kind of game. That said however, there are days of frustration too where things just don't go your way. But this is racing afterall. You will be required to drive and act like a professional on the track.

Q: Can we have customized cars?
A: Yes, you can create your own custom skin for your car. Since we will participate as a team we should stick to the same theme of course.

Q: Which online servers are used?
A: SGS currently hosts a server for rFactor.

If you are interested or if you have more questions please let me know, if I get more than one response I'm going to have to go through some sort of selection process. If you live in Pretoria it will be great since I can then perhaps supply you with a CD including the game and the other content you will need to download otherwise. (Note: You'll still have to buy the game).

Hi Nevar, last night was my first F3 race (previously I've only been doing Nascar but I decided to move to F3).

I saw you on track, what position did you finish? I think I was lapped by you actually. After a rough start, I finished in 13'th position (started in 19'th, lost a few positions at the start, then I broke a wing on the 2'nd lap and had to go in for an early pit, then I slowly worked my way up but couldn't do any better than 13'th).

Bio, its not about noobness here, it's rather if you are willing to put in the effort.

The top guys are incredibly good and I don't expect a podium position in the first few seasons. My aim is rather to be in the top 10. All I want is somebody who would be willing to practise with me, experiment with different setups, learn the tracks, etc. I myself is a complete noob compared to the other guys. I do have some experience in setting up the cars and driving techniques so I can at least give you a good start.

*edit*
I forgot to mention, since this is the first F3 season hosted by SARL they are allowing some driving aids, however I would not recommend using this at all since at some point it will be taken away and then you'll have to start learning to drive these cars all over again.

Hehe was running 3rd till after the first pit stop was pushing to hard on my cold tires and lost my front wing .... pitted was 16th raced my way back up to 6th.

Did over a 1000 practise laps hoping for a podium but my noobness and cold tires made me loose it again.

Mybee next race Ill be a bit more lucky :P

grats on the 13th place. My first race I lost a few too many weels and didnt finish even :P

It's a hard sim to master but you feel like you have done something great when you fininish that first race.

Ok guys, I have two people already interested (Acid Burn and Bio). The team is closed for now. Thx for the interest.

Nevar, I really enjoyed the race too. I just thought I was on a path to self destruction when I lost a wing on the 2'nd lap already. Luckily things "calmed down" after that. Just busy writing my after race post on SGS forums now. :) Wow, being in third place any time during the race is awesome. Even 6'th is really good imho, well done mate! :)

Well, you are certainly a contender for the podium. Only a matter of time I say ;)
