View Full Version : OSx86 Project
Hi guys
I have been doing some reading into this and would like to know if someone can tell me a little bit more about it.
My first question is that once installed, can a user play normal games that are made for windows on this OS?

I think during the transition period between PPC architecture & x86 we might see more ports of PC titles to Universal binaries. In theory I suppose it possible to run x86 games on OSX for x86. Trick is to get it run with full hardware support of your PC first I would think. I have the install DVD but haven't tried it yet.
Hopefully eventually we'll see the same titles for PC appear on the Mac simultaneously. Only thing that's kept me from being a total Mac user is the shitty games & performance.
Time will tell.
Here's a question.
Mac is moving away from PowerPC platform to x86.
Xbox 360 has moved from x86 to PowerPC.
??????
I've heard everything from Mac moved to Intel x86 cause they were fed up with the lac of performance from the PowerPC platform, to IBM told them they can't use the PowerPC processors anymore.
If the PowerPC lacks performance, WTF are they doing in the X360?
Very interesting. Anyone got the real story, or a link?
X360 with a PowerPC chip will make it more difficult to hack it and put linux on it :p

I'm sure Intel has a better performance roadmap than IBM, but I don't think the move has anything to do with performance now. They Dual Proccessor G5's kick ass & the Quad Core G5's are uber...
The problem with the G5 processor is the power consumption & cooling ~ the PowerMac Dual's & Quad's are all water cooled standard. They have to be.
Apple could never get the G5 into a Notebook, you should see the size of the heatsink inside a G5 PowerMac! the iMac G5 pushed it a little, we have a couple of them here and they are the worst model i've ever encountered, endless shit!
Anyway I have a G4 PowerBook 1.67ghz { which is the fastest they ever got too as well }
We've been waiting for ever for a G5 Notebook but they never came :( So Apple had to make a move, they took long enough to do it.
The only problem with the Intel Duo MacBook's are the kak screen size? There are no 17" models yet, were all now waiting for those to come out.
The G4 PowerBook is still an awesome machine, super slim, awesome engineering imo. Give's the lower end G5's a good run for it's money.
Anyway the XBOX & I think it's the Revolution or PS3 also use PPC CPU's.
So they are not dead yet.
PS3 is an IBM PowerPC Cell Processor.
The Revolution will probably be some arb thing. The cube was IBM PowerPC though.
There are areas where the PowerPC chips kicked the crap out of Intel and vice versa. Even on the New Intel Based Mac Boxes.
