Yo guys.
There has been some disscussion on the 1v1/2v2 thread and poll that Max made , and it seems there is interest for getting a fair an local tourney off the ground .

I wil copy and paste the suggestions here indicating the proposed team structure and game rules.

The rules and regs will be voted by us so everyone has a say .

Please note there will be fair teams .

My personal opinion is as follows, I think duelling is a no go, since too few players are interested in something like that. Now I have an idea that would in my honest opinion REALLY spunk things up and get some interest. So hear me out and give me your comments!

I think the GM tourney was really on the right track however missed the boat in certain aspects. What I am proposing is the following. A 3v3 man squad, no players may be of the same clan and I think a group of say 3 or 4 people take a list of people keen to play and group players together (lets say a neutral body) to ensure that the team makeup is FAIR and competitive. From there, the ladder system stays the same HOWEVER the challenger may have the option of a 3v3 in either ONS, TDM, ATDM, Double Domination or Assault with realistic rules and realistic maps (no international rules bullshit or pro rules, WE MAKE OUR OWN RULES AS A COMMUNITY!). I think then from a competitive point of view, you will have your top ONS player’s really kicking ass as well as your CTF lovers all the way through the ranks, so on and so forth.

Then to make things even more fun, I am willing from my side to put up some prizes, say 3x Copperheads or 3x G5’s maybe even some specialised modding equipment like 15” CCFL’s or Alu Fans. I think there are quite a few people on these forums that could throw in something just to make it more enjoyable. Then from my point of view, I am really willing to oversee the challenges and stuff like that, I am sure we can get some admin going as well. Further more we will not have this damn thing lasting AGES and AGES. A three week ladder system, where the top 8 teams go into a double elimination draw and they run through all the different game types till we get the winners.

I think the major problem will all tourneys or ladders that happened is that most guys think “Why should I play? I am just going to lose” Now with this system, EVERYTHING is balanced, fair and FUN!

Team selection proposal by Syzygy

well, to choose teams... perhaps you have three different player brackets. An experienced bracket, an intermediate bracket and skilled bracket.

A really good player goes into the experienced bracket, a decent player in the intermediate bracket and a not so good player in the skilled bracket.

This would mean that each team of three should have an experienced player, an intermediate player and a skilled player. This would mean that all 3 v 3 teams are somewhat balanced and can be randomly generated.

And finally ...

Well I think that if enough people are interested we can do this in as many ways as we as a community find fit. What I am trying to say is that we as a group can decide which would be the best method of deciding how things go. Syzygy gave an awesome example to use, or from my part as I said above have a group of knowledged players whom know most of the players online and build the groups from there.

But before anything can even start, I personally would like to know how many players would be INTERESTED!?

Well I'm sure the people in this community know more or less who falls into which bracket (Good, Average or ahem... Below Average) We should let people say themselves, which bracket they fall into and the rest may object or accept the placement. It will be an advantage to be placed in a lower bracket than what you really are so we'll get alot of okes underrating themselves but being told they're better than that, so this way we wont be stepping on too many egos.:D

I hope this isn't only for clans. :)

He knows this game backwards, and knows most of us ingame , I think he is fair and would be a good choice.

I would not mind being it a team with Syzygy or opiate, Last couple of CTF & ONS games we played I got some support from both of them while in a pinch.

I think the main thing is we need to setup a date which the Tourny will start. Once we have that, ppl will be able to more accuratly tell us if they'll be avalible for it, and maybe some rought dates for the matches, like let's say, every tuesday & thursday from Nov x.

guys,

If i can add my 2c, we need to have a kind of calender to show the dates and times. If we ask the peeps to arrange a date to play it normally takes ages.

Maybe each team needs to line up a support player to assist if one member can't make it. this should not happen every match though.

Well to start things off.
I'm free on mondays, tuesdays & thursdays (Will be able to play on Sat & Sundays as well, as long as it's in the after noon).

I would say we kick it off on saturday / sunday this week. (that gives us a week to confirm players & teams.)

Then maybe 2 - 3 matches a week for then on, (Depending on the scoring system we'll be using)

Lets try keep it as diverse as possible. We want people in teams that hardly know each other , and have never been in a team before. This will allow for each player to not rely on the other stronger player in the team , and at least have a chance to prove themselves.

Besides there is no I in team.

I know this is a difficult feat, but it's a good idea to mix the teams as best you can , good luck.

Cool, I never listened to my PC teach in any way, I find that the ppl that real get into IT love it from the word go & the teach works to slow for them.

But that's what happens when a wide group of ppl needs to be taught.
well...my guys play Ut most times...and their main ambition is to beat me:P...although its Ut99 ..... and on crappy p4 celeron machines, so it doesnt really bother me....but their interest is more in games than designing..i have to use the proverbial carrot to get some work done (and UT is it)

I am mostly happy , I just feel that these teams have too many strong players in and could use some revising.

I just feel that Haja and Divexo and Forrest are very strong players, and Naut and Cataphract are strong also.

If those two teams can be re-arranged I think it would be somewhat better.
I am not trying to be difficult , the thing is I know how difficult it is trying to bash through Naut and Cataphract when they of defense in CTF.

Anyone else agree with me ?

It shouldn't be too difficult to re-arrange those two teams a little.

We should set a schedule of matches and let it be final.....if u cant make it tough....otherwise this 3v3 thing wont even take off.

If someone doesnt pitch u can forfeit and lose ur place/points/whatever or play but play 2v3 etc...

I think that it is time to start thinking about a date so that arangements can be made and ppl can say who is available and who is not. If two teams (or more) are available, let them play! There could be a log of number of game type played(ons, tdm, ctf), games won and games lost. Also team played, the total played and total points.

Each point consist of three matches and if you win 2 you get ur point or you can just be given a point for every match you win (say you lose 2-1 you get your 1 point and the other team gets 2).*The latter way you will obviously end with 63 matches played not 21. This is just a suggestion and u guys can keep it, change it or disgard it. Its up to you. :)

It would be a mistake to try and rush this, let's calm down and let Naut finish his planning, it's his baby after all. We know who our teamates are so we can use this time to get some practice and work out a few strategies. I think we are going to need it!:thumbsup:

According to the list we have at the moment there are 27 players, 3 per team, which makes 9 teams. For a double elimination we need groups of 8. (8, 16 etc)

So we have one team too many. As opposed to having 7 too few.

Head over to http://quantumstuff.co.za/alp and register on the website.

Once registered select "Tournaments", "UT2004 3vs3 Tournament" and click on "pug".

Once we have all the players, we will create teams and assign players to the teams. PLEASE DO NOT CREATE TEAMS YET. We will need 24 players and will be on a first come first server basis. Once 24 has been reached the tournament will be locked and you will not be able to enter the comp.

When you register there is a section called "gaming group" where you can add this. :clap:

Besides the comp started out being non clan related.
