why do I have to go pure debian Shrimpo?
Becuase then you have access to a massive selection of packages/applications available, rather than just a few your distro chooses to make available.

aaahhhhhh but would original debian be as easy as the other distro's to install and nmanage?
I've heard that Debian can be a bitch to install, but is very powerful and customisable.
You've heard wrong :)
You can have a full machine from scratch to working in quicker than it takes to install XP :).
Installation is pretty much no more complicated than chosing a keyboard layout, setting time zones, partition schemes, etc., nothing any other OS doesn't ask, and it's certainly no more difficult than anything else.
But does it come with a nice user friendly GUI?
You can install any GUI you like with absolute ease. Gnome, KDE, whatever...

Yeah!! Linux installs very easily, there's alot more options on most distros as to which additional components you would like to install, and the GUIs put XP to shame IMO. But I found myself getting stuck a bit with having to do the shell commands like makefile and unzip gzip yaddadadadaa so I actually gave up on my foray into Linux, which was a pity though. I'm gonna get my old PC running on Linux again then I can bother Shrimp whenever I get stuck. :D K?
but its soooooo big and will take loooooooooooooooong to download :boohoo:
