I just got to finish this game over the weekend.

It's a nice twist-off the normal UT - has a better story, insane combos (like the infinate double jump), starnge but nice weapons and chracters types don't just look different - they play different as they have different attributes. They made the control much simpler to suit the Xbox, and wall jumping and dodging has never been more fun as there's no limit as to how many times you can jump off a wall. Thats just scratching on the surface - I haven't even mentioned melee combat - thats on another level alltogether. Basically it replaces the shield gun, but allows you to better attack your opponent at close range - you even get a mid-air charge which dashes and kills your enemy in 1 shot (but its hard to pull off). You and you can deflect rockets back to your opponent while in melee mode - its awesome, but timing must be perfect.

The game felt a bit strange (yet kinda friendly due to it's simplicity) on the Xbox control, but I managed to organise a smartJoyX (or something to that effect) that allows you to replace a controller with a keyboard and mouse - which makes the game that much more fun. I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in this, I just thought I'd share it as I really enjoyed the game and perhaps someone else might appreciate it.

P.S that shock rifle model for 2007 seemed very similar to the one used in UC2LC

Cool thanks, nice review.

Don't mean to be a dick though, but all posts here go to the main page (www.unreal.co.za), so maybe in the future just parapraph and space it out a bit more...

Just to neaten it up a bit ;)

I played the demo on the Official Xbox Magazine demo disk, but I just can't wrap my head around the controller. With a mouse and keyboard it would be awesome since the melee fighting does make for some refreshing combos. It seems like a great branching of the Unreal franchise, but hell, that smartjoyX has never been more needed.
